It's just one of those purposely open-ended things. I like to think that it actually happened, but I also eat dog food so.

This. Minus the dog food part. Also, is it just me or is a spinning top a horribly poor choice for a totem of which only you can tell? Especially if the only way to tell is by spinning it?

I think that the special mind training crap meant that they can't get out of limbo, or the dude whose mind they where in would have to kill himself to get out.

The IMDB faq I linked earlier says the same, how fast/long it spins can be perceived hence recreated. But the weight and feel of the top can't, so Leo would have to know by just picking it up. Also, he seems to have gotten it from Mal, which only complicates things further...
 

I haven't seen the movie since the summer but from what I remember/think about:

1. Can Limbo be seen as another dimension (nobody dreams it)?

You could think of it that way. I see it more as a place of our subconscious where everything is connected. The spiritual divine if you will or close to it since everyone can go there and anything can be created.

4. Why is dropping into Limbo so bad, if the team-members landed there, couldn't they all kill themselves and return to reality?

They couldn't in this instance because sedative would keep them from waking up so then they would keep returning to limbo.

5. Why don't they get addicted to the sedative?

The sedative doesn't have to be addictive. It could quite easily be a non-addivtive form of sedative. Maybe something natural. Who knows. Either way, It is only a construct to move the story along. For all we know, there is no sedative or dream machine and the entire concept of dream walking is fake and the entire movie is just a dream.
