Open or closed doesnt matter cause I work nights and theres nobody around, comfort doesnt matter, my ears are so darn sensitive that all phones Ive ever tried hurt after an hour or so, and when I wear my glasses its even worse, so I just deal with it. I like bass, but Im content with the BA HD5s which are a tiny bookshelf with a 5.25in driver that only gets down to 55hz so its not a top priority. Mostly I just want something different to rotate in.
 
Since both my headphone out options are turds, Ill be needing a dac/amp as well and Im 90% set on a fiio e10 from adorama for $45 which leaves $105 on this gift card I have. Ive narrowed it down to
 
1. Grado SR80i(MS1 perhaps?)
2. Shure SRH440
3. ATH AD700
4. god only knows what else, I started looking at IEMs today, but I'm really not sure there but not against it either
 
What do you guys think?

Going for something different, go for Grado.  Better yet get there better sibling, the Alessandro MS-1.

I know the most confortable headphones ever, i hardly doubt you are so sensible that it could hurt your ears

Philips Uptown is like a cloud on the head (even when i have glasses, and big sunglasses ones like Oakley Monster Dog), have a nice sound and match your budget (even cheaper maybe, but i don't really know the price where you live)

Hi guys.  I have been doing a lot of reading around on headphones on the web lately and this forum always comes up in every search result, so about time I signed up and consulted the experts!  
 
I didn't realise there was a dedicated thread for recommendations until I got the welcome pm, so I appologise for the duplication.
 
 
 
Christmas is quickly catching up with me and my better half is pestering me for ideas.  The only thing I can think of that I am lacking is a half decent set of headphones.  
 
The trouble is, I don't like buying audio based on faceless recommendations if I can help it.  But the age of the internet has killed the traditional shops and there is literally nowhere I can find to demo some products.
 
There is a store relatively close to me that stock Grado headphones.  I listened to the iGrados and love the sound.  Yes I know they may not be the ultimate in SQ, but for their price point I can't fault them.
 
There are two issues that are holding me back though.  One is I think I might prefer the traditional over the head style, and the second is I am being put off by them being open back.  I know this generally means a better sound, but if I am wearing these at work, on the bus etc, I'm not sure I want to be sharing my music with the world.  
 
The first, it seems like the SR60 would be the obvious choice, if what I have read is correct, they are only a few more dollars than the iGrados.  But over here they are more than double the price!
 
And regarding the open back issue, then I guess that means I need to just look else where anyway.  
 
My music taste is pretty varied, I listen to everything, but leaning towards a slightly bass heavy sound.  But in no way would that be at the expense of all round sound quality.
 
 
Just looking online, the other headphones that are at my price point are the Sennheiser HD449.  Not sure what else is out there, especially without being able to hear anything!

What is your budget and where do live?
 
Grados/Alessandros leak a great deal of sound.  So they are not a good choice for public use.
 
If you are still interested in the Grado family, the Alessandro MS-1, which is better than the SR 80i, might be cheaper for you.  See:

I am in the UK, budget is around £70, could be pushed to £100 if it's worth it. 
 
I have had no joy finding the Alessandro MS-1 over here.  But if it helps recommendations, the SR60i is more my price level.  
But the sound leaking issue, if you can call it that, is still a concern.  Hence wanting to look at some others. 
 
Not sure if I mentioned before.  But I will be looking to use these with an ipod classic, maybe my phone too (HTC onex).

I just talked about the Philips Uptown, it's not only about the look, the confort and the sound are great

Actually i'm not a fan of the look, i bought them because of the reviews (and i had a huge discount on them at my local store), and i needed a closed and cheaper phones than my L1 to go in public transport where i don't feel safe wearing 300€ on my head (and the L1 is semi open so it leaks a lot)

I don't listen to bass heavy music though, I prefer more clear sound and comfort, isolation is not a must but if possible I would like for the headphones to have it. L1 are quite big, they are circumaural, bigger ones are 50mm and open (closed one are for DJ who works on clubs and are basshead oriented, you will just have the crap Beats type sound), they are not for mobile use (its a non-sense to say we wantbig open phones for portable use, especially with a S3 and at this price, even L& which are semi-open are not really good on a noisy environment, like they are not well isolated), and quality of sound isn't about the size. Read reviews instead judging like that, god i understand why there are not a lot of people to give advises on this topic, noobs are funny but also irritating when they say those kind of things because they read something on a site (like your copy/paste)

 I undertand your concerns but I didn't say that bigger cans = better sound quality I just meant that I would want something a bit bigger (though I am willing to back that if they can provide the type of sound I am searching for). The streets in my country Bulgaria are far less noisy that perhaps everywhere. For me far too big cans means something like hd 650 and you don't need to be so fancy with your words if you are not willing to help just move on. Also please don't criticize my mobile phone pick I find the s3 far more usefull than my ipod or mp3's since it provides better sound (in my opinion), has a bigger screen which is more useful for internet browsing,games, movies, etc (not to mention the specifications, talking about the global version of course) and it fits brilliantly in my pocket. I don't think that people who get irritated so easily should offer help here, sorry if I have offended you in someway but I don't think that it was necessary for you to act so overly dramatatic  to just because I didn't fell in love with your favorite headphones. I know that a lot of people have their favorite brands and all but I think that a person must focus soly on one model. As far as I've seen many people here have many different brands of heaphones and can give cons and pros for every model they own and not focus on one brand of headphones or even one headphone they own.

my limit is 100 €. I've been watching these

I wanted circum-aural headphones for more comfort.
I have no particular musical tastes, but I would say that I do not listen to metal and hard rock styles and identical ... I like rock, jazz, classical, r & b, pop, etc.

Will be connected to an ipod classic and a laptop computer, can rarely be connected to my amp denon dra 345r.

I wanted some headphones that not needed for portable amp.

Between open and closed I did not want to discard any of the hypotheses. I do not quite know what to choose, they are my first headphones in this range.

That is, what do I recommend?

KRK KNS 8400 or if they are not available to you, Shure SRH 840.  From your post, my interpretation is that you will not be amping these cans.
