I have M50's that I'm VERY happy with. Lately I've been itching to get a higher level headphone even though I like and I'm not bored of my ath-M50.

I was thinking open cans for a different listening experience. And a budget of around $200. People seem to be reviewing the AD900X very highly. Given that I trust Audio Technica, I could see myself getting these.

I like EDM, rock/alt, some pop, hip hop, and classical.

Given that I like EDM and earlier some people are raving about the ws99, I'm tempted to go with those. But I feel that while they're supposed to have excellent bass, they probably won't give me as good of an overall headphone. Thoughts?

So any suggestions are appreciated!!? :)

Do you want a more neutral/flat/honest sound (HD600) or a more euphonic/colored sound (HD650). Personally, I prefer the 600, even for things such as trance and dubstep.. I just prefer accurate bass. I'd definitely prefer the 600's for metal. The only genres where I can really appreciate the coloration of the 650's are jazz and some classical. I don't mind it with electronic stuff, but like I said.. I just favor a more neutral sound.

I think most people would pick the 650 if blindfolded. They tend to sound more "impressive" to those with untrained ears.

Also, for what it's worth.. the differences between the two are smaller than people make them out to be. They are certainly more alike than different and both are good sounding sets, but most people will prefer one over the other. Your best bet is to demo them, of course.

Just confirmed on the product page that they work even without the batteries!! That's awesome! I hope they're easy to drive. If not would they work with a simple, cheap amp such as the Fiio E6?

They are efficient enough to run without an amp. They were made to be driven completely off of iDevices and other portable players.

Hello guys, any upgrade recommendations from Koss TBSE1/Pro DJ 100 ? I want more (punchy) bass, soundstage and the nice mids of the koss. Budget is $250 - $300 at max. Preferably closed headphones with detachable cable.

I'm considering the AKG K550 but I'm not sure if the bass will be enough even with my E6. I'm also considering the Denon D600 but not sure about the mids.

Thanks

  • Budget is $250-300.
  • Where/how do you plan on using these can?
  • What kind of music do you listen to and what's the format/bit rate?
  • What source device will it be coming from and what amp, if any, will you be using?
  • Do you know what kind of signature you're trying to find?

Hello, guys!

I'm looking for a pair of closed headphones under $350.

It must be comfortable even with glasses and have a great isolation because I'll be using them in bus/train/subway everyday.

If it doesn't fold up it must have a hard carrying case.

It has to be easy to drive from an Android smartphone.

Detachable cable is big plus.

I listen mostly to mainstream pop/rock music and a wide range of rock genres which include Linkin Park, Avenged Sevenfold, Maroon 5, Rise Against, Evanescence, A Day to Remember, As I Lay Dying, Muse, OneRepublic, Paramore etc.

It must sound good with female singers (Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Beyoncé, Colbie Caillat, Marina and the Diamonds etc) because they represent 45% of what I listen to.

And I prefer good built instead of good looking.

Thanks in advance!

* Yeah $300 at max

* Mainly home (90%) but I'd like great isolation for the bus

* A lot of electronic and trance, k-pop, classical, rock/alternative, pop. Music is in apple lossless, flac and some 256 kbps itunes plus format.

* Source is iPhone 4/iPhone touch 4 gen and I have Fiio E6 as amp.

* Something warm; good punchy bass (not excessive), rich sound and really good mids like the TBSE1. Sorry I might be asking too much for just $300 Lol

Hey guys what do you think of the Ultrasone Pro and HFI series? Can you list me the best models under $300? I'm not sure what the difference between the two product lines are so I need you guys to tell me. Something good for funk/jazz fusion, some electronic music, a good all-arounder.

I'm getting the creative soundblaster z card tomorrow and I need help in finding a good headset for it. I do alot of gaming, listening to music and chatting on the internet. The Headset I was looking at is the Sennheiser pc 360's but it only has 2 cords on it, will it still sound good with the sound card? Or what would you recommend, I want top quality but will only pay $200. Thank you in advance, btw I was recommended to this site from a guy on Tom's Hardware.

Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum and I am in need of some advice about my situation.

I am planning to sell my hi-fi system to step to a headphone rig. This due to several reasons, one being spending all day away from home, on trains or at the university and one other the bad listening environment conditions.

I'm posting both here both in portable amps thread, since I need advice for both. I don't know if this is right, but I don't know how to do otherwise. I've already read the guidelines.

The matter is that I need something that should be used mostly outdoor, but, since I'm not going to keep both my hi-fi and the headphones, it should be a good replacement for my hi-fi: so, I need to choose a pair of headphones, and for the rest of the rig, since I'm using my iphone as a portable source (192+ kbps AAC), I'm thinking about an iphone lod, a portable amp, plus a full size headphone amp to use at home (lossless quality), if it's worth it within the budget. I have a valab NOS dac and a M2tech HiFace as a source at home, I don't know if I should replace or keep them. I'm searching for a good compromise outdoor and a good solution indoor, considering I will be outdoor the most of the time. It would be good to have a portable amp which would be right for both the purposes, but I'd prefer not to go around with too much expansive stuff with me, so I'm planning to spend (taking into account the secondhand market) about 250€ (about 330$) for the headphones, 120€ (160$) for the portable amp, plus something like 200€ (260$) for a full-size amp (but only if it's worth to buy it). Single item budget is flexible, but overall budget is not.

For what concerns the sound, I'm extremely ecletic, I listen to everything from classical to jazz, from the worst dance music to heavy metal, from progressive ambient to psychedelic rock / folk, so I need something versatile. Anyway, I'd like to have a deep but clear bass, but with possibly realistic trebles, and a strong temper.

Again, I need my headphones to be sturdy: since I'm spending money for something I'll be using all day long everyday, I don't want them to brake in a couple of weeks.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. sorry if my english was bad, I hope I have been clear enough. Thank you again for the support.

Hey guys!
I just bought some MDR 1rs and while they do sound great compared to closed cans, they might get owned by open cans in the same price range. I'm still keeping them of course because I like the sound and the portability and whatnot, but am in the market for an open can.

My search has led me between 3 cans:
Sony MDR MA900
Sennheiser HD598
fidelio x1

Now most people say that the ma900s own the hd598s in every way, but I just wanted to be sure. I won't be amping these, which is why I didn't add things like DT880/990, or Q701.

Note: I'm not a basshead but I like to have a little more puch then what you headfiers call neutral.

Since I would probably use the 1rs for hip hop, I was wondering how well these open cans would do with vocal and instrumental based genres, like r&b, rock, jrock/pop, and classical.

Thanks!
