Beyer DT 1350
Audio Technica ATHESW9A
Senn Amperior
Senn momentum
Beyer DT 1350
Shure SRH 940

My listening needs are very broad. Anywhere from Metallica, Godsmack, All the Remains, To Classical Symphonies and violinsts, to a very Small number of country and pop, to Mariachi, to select rappers.

Each of which really emphasis different frequency ranges.

I will say the most common genre I listen to is rock such as metallica and Godsmack, and even when listening to rap I don't prefer my bass to be overpowering, I like the presence but to me it should not overpower or distort the vocalist

Perviously I had mentioned that noise cancelling is desired but not needed, but isolation is needed while leakage isn't a concern.

Which of the above list would meet my needs?

Also if I were to add am amplifier into the equation is there a much better option in the about 300 range?

Also if I were to lift the noise isolation requirement completely and want a second pair of IEMS that around below 150 would I get a much better full size head phone option?

Since the DT 1350 (which you list twice & which is on Tyll's Wall of Fame) is currently on closeout for $209, the decision should get easier:

Just because you can get loud volume out of a can does not mean that it is being driven properly.  Depending on the can, it can be loud, but is missing most of its bass; sounds very muddy; has a small sound stage, etc. (and sometimes a combo of such things).

I am looking for a quality mid-centric closed full size headphone (I have big ears) that can be easily driven by my iPod video or Sansa Clip+ any recommendation anyone?

I listen mostly to classic rock and heavy metal, price is not a issue at this moment.

Any suggestions?

What's your budget?

Of the closed headphones I've tried, I found that the SRH840 held up best when played straight out an ipod or d10 portable amp.  They also have very good mids, slightly rolled off treble and mild deep bass, but emphasized mid-bass so I'd describe them as lower-mid centric.  My ears are normal sized (and I gave them away) so I can't tell you if they'll work with large ears.

The Beyers list an output impedance f 80 ohms, can the z2 handle that?

Looking for something for house music with a good amount of bass and a big sound stage around $200. It will be for home use and doesn't need to isolate. It will be driven by a Schiit Asgard. Right now I'm thinking it's HFI2400 vs  PRO2500 vs DT990, any others I should consider?

No one is going to fit your head and ears from afar, but the KRK KNS 8400 is considered to be very comfortable by most.  A number of Sony's might also work for you, including the MDR-V900HD, MDR-7506 & MDR-7510.

Of course you can go with on ear cans, such as the Senn HD 25-1 II or the open box closeout Beyer DT 1350 on sale for only $209 here:

The DT1350 is made for portable use.  My iPhone 4 drives it.  It's sensativity rating is 109 db.

Are there any headphones not on the list that you would recommend like into? closed or open back?

I forgot to mention that I am trying to get a closed headphone circumaural fit with the headphone, that why I mention that I have big ears. biggrin.gif

The Sennheiser HD558 cover my ears perfectly and I own them, I mention them as a reference as far as fit goes.

Only problem is that those are supra-aural headphones.

Is there an Alternative you would recommend?

No, I apologize I though you were recommending those to me and I am looking for a circumaural closed headphone.

Hi I'm looking for recommendations for a new headphone.

I own Sennheiser HD598 and HD650 however want something else as well. Keep in mind I have only burnt HD650s in for 10hrs so far and they are slowly opening up and getting punchier bass so keep this in mind in my comparisons.

From both headphones I like/dislike the following:

Senn HD598:

- I like the open airy sound + big soundstage

- Dislike the fatigue levels. I want to take them off after a while - asopposed to HD650 which I can listen to all day

- I prefer the bass on these compared to HD650. I find it punchier on HD598 (so far).

Senn HD650

- Really like how there is no fatigue due to laid back highs/no sibilance etc.

- Not enough punchy bass.

- Don't like how there is less airyness and feels like smaller soundstage. I guess I'm referring to the veil here?

- Sound quality is better though - less distortion etc

What I think I am looking for:

- Open headphone

- PUNCHY bass (so important). Need as much punch as possible I listen to Rap a lot. No such thing as too much punch for me.

- Open and airy sound with large soundstage

- No/little fatigue. I guess this means recessed highs. Can't stand harsh highs

- Comfort is actually a big deal as well.

For reference, I sold my Denon AHD5000 because the highs were quite fatiguing and my ears touched the inside of cups so it was too uncomfortable. Loved the bass. Didn't like recessed mids and small soundstage. Sound quality was just better on HD598 so I kept them.

DAC/Amp

- I currently have Yulong D100MKII

- Plan to purchase La Figaro 339 tube amp in future

Budget: At the moment, $700, however feel free to recommend above and below this price range in case of a future upgrade for me to look forward to. I have ideas but looking for recommendations.

Thanks!!!
