OK NOW FOR REAL.

i have the Q701 and LOVE THEM !!!

now i do not have a desktop amp... only have the ffio e5 didnt feel any diff amp or unamped.

HOW BIG is the difference with a proper amp for the Q701 ? is it that huge and worth the money ? i am just an ordinary guy i dont do recording or anything, just play HQ music...

my next question is what is the BEST amp\DAC for the Q701 for 80-100$ (perfer to buy from amazon has 100$ gift card)

saw ppl talk about the E9 but i see its a dock or something.. dont feel like buying more stuff, just want amp|dac that does the job well and improve drasticly the soundquality of the Q701

You will need to spend for than $100 for an amp to get the best from the Q701

Don't know your equipment.  That said the Shure SRH 940 is less than $10 over your budget shipped from Amazon.

No, but it's within your budget, and drives the Q701 pretty well. You were also looking for a dac/amp combo and you will have to pay a lot more money to get a E09K/E17 combo or the like.

I would rather step up to the ~$200 range and get something like the O2 or M-Stage (I wish I had done so from the start looking back) but I ran the K701 off the E10 for some time and it's certainly not bad.

Also, I wouldn't use the term "drastic" to describe the effects of any budget amp/dac... it might leave you disappointed

An amp only helps to tame the treble, bring out the bass more, and widens the soundstage a bit. To me it doesn't make a huge difference with the $155 JDS Labs Objective 2 amp, but it depends on the person really. I wouldn't mind listening to the K 701 "unamped", as it sounds OK to me straight out of an iPhone 4S, but I think it does sound better and more engaging when properly amped.

If you're looking for a DAC/amp under $100, the E7 does a good-enough job for the K 701's. I would purchase the newer E07k DAC/amp since it's has more features than the E7 for a tad bit higher price.

Ok so I went ahead and ordered my player so my Cowon Z2 should be at my place middle of next week. Now I am trying to finalize my hedphone options

The list right now is comprised of:

Beyer DT 1350
Audio Technica ATHESW9A
Senn Amperior
Senn momentum
Beyer DT 1350
Shure SRH 940

My listening needs are very broad. Anywhere from Metallica, Godsmack, All the Remains, To Classical Symphonies and violinsts, to a very Small number of country and pop, to Mariachi, to select rappers.

Each of which really emphasis different frequency ranges.

I will say the most common genre I listen to is rock such as metallica and Godsmack, and even when listening to rap I don't prefer my bass to be overpowering, I like the presence but to me it should not overpower or distort the vocalist

Perviously I had mentioned that noise cancelling is desired but not needed, but isolation is needed while leakage isn't a concern.

Which of the above list would meet my needs?

Also if I were to add am amplifier into the equation is there a much better option in the about 300 range?

Also if I were to lift the noise isolation requirement completely and want a second pair of IEMS that around below 150 would I get a much better full size head phone option?

maybe the K701 need a lot of amp power, but with my Q701 i get to decent volume... so why would i spend 200$ for an amp if the different is not huge ? as i mentioned before i am not an audiophile, small changes will not make me happy, only significant change

The newer K 701's are nearly identical to the Q 701's; my K 701 gets plenty loud at half volume level with my iPhone 4S. The difference isn't huge, but it allows you to get the last 15% (arbitrary percentage) out of your headphones. If you're looking for a larger difference, usually tube amps can make the whole headphone sound warmer, giving it that analog kind of listening experience....though good tube amps are usually ~$200+.

I completely agree... had the k 701 for a long time with an E10.. worked very well.. but there was no "drastic" difference to a sony mp3 player or a cellphone with neutron player 2 be honest

I am in the market for new closed headphones that do not requiere an amp (I have one but I want to use them off my iPod videos or Sansa clip+ directly without suffering any loss in sound quality.

I am looking for a quality mid-centric closed full size headphone (I have big ears) that can be easily driven by my iPod video or Sansa Clip+ any recommendation anyone?

I listen mostly to classic rock and heavy metal, price is not a issue at this moment.

Any suggestions?
