Your 580 is better than all of these, with the possible exception of the 750.  It will give the bass you seek if properly amped.

I'm looking for a decent pair of on-ear headphones for portable use, not looking to get over-ear since they're kinda large for portable use. My budget would cap at around $100, but I could spend a bit more if it's worth it. I'll be using my clip zip primarily and iphone 4s. I like a warmish sound sig, sweet mids, and non-fatiguing treble since these will be my travel cans. I've been looking into the ath-ws55 and AKG k67 lately, thoughts? Thanks.

The $200 budget limit vs. your 580's is the rub.  You need more cash to get to the Beyer DT 880, Alessandro MS-2i/Grado SR 325is, AKG K 550 or Senn HD 650.

I like the CAL! and Sony DR-ZX701IP/MDR-ZX700.

Those are over-ear. May be on-ear for some, but not me. Really looking for something portable, but thanks

Thanks for the reply. So should i just go for the 518 with it being £40 cheaper $65? And is the difference between the two headphones small enough or large enough to notice with my untrained ears? And which will be the better option out of those two for me having only used closed headphones as in which one would i get used to quicker if that makes sense Thanks.

I've been looking around for the past week at various places trying to get information on which headphones to get for listening to music.

I currently own Audio Technica AD700's, the first pair of headphones I've owned, which I use mainly for gaming and movies, music only because I have no other way of listening to music.

My main beef with the AD700's is that the bass is really light. I listen to rock, metal, trance/electronica, reggae, artists like Linkin Park, Three Days Grace, KoRn, Damian Marley, AD/DC, Depeche Mode, Rob Zombie, and many others. When I listen to some Linkin Park songs, the AD700's start to static and the sound gets slightly distorted.

I also have a pair of Klipsch S4's which used to sound amazing after burn in, but recently I've noticed that there's alot of cracking and distortion when I listen to any songs on high volume. Maybe due to them still burning in. They used to sound better than the AD700's at one point but the other day I compared them and I found that the AD700's are much more crisp and clear and much less distortion-y. I've looked at AT M50's, seen huge praise for them, but alot of people say that there are much better headphones out there, then I read about the Beyerdynamics DT770 headphones and how great they were but the bass is in the middle. Then there were Sennheiser 598's, ATH AD900s, honestly so many headphones that I can't even decide how to narrow down my choices. 

I originally had a budget of around $150 but seeing as how many different headphones there are I am now willing to spend $200-250, prefferably around $200 especially if I have to get an amp. I don't really care if they're open back or closed since I'm sitting in a room all alone when I'm using them, but a good soundstage would be nice. I really just need a pair to listen to music with. I'm going to be plugging them into my PC, unless I need an amp.

I cant excactly offer you any real help lol but from looking at reviews everywhere states that the sennheiser hd518 more bass than the 558 and 598 dont know about sound quality wise asked that question few mins ago and waiting for reply now

Would it be alright to open a new thread for this instead of waiting for an answer in this one?

Trained or otherwise, if you have good ears, you will hear the difference. 

With regard to the rest, there is no way for me to know.  It's almost 100% dependent on the individual and his/her preferences.

Unless you describe the sound signature you seek and what equipment you will use to power these new cans (do you have a sound card that provides amplification), it probably won't matter.  Besides it's been less than two hours since you made your first post.  Patience grasshopper.  In addition it's the middle of the night or very early morning for for a large percentage of the folks who are regulars here.

You probably should be asking in the Portable Headphone section of the forum.  This section is for full sized headphones.

My budget is around 30-60$. Unfortunately, where I live these cans aren't available, except for V55, which is still listed above 100$ there... But do you think JVC S400 could be better better than S600?
