Well they won't be for portable use I don't really care about that. It sucks that I can't just listen to them to see what I like more. I don't have any "good" headphones to compare to see what I really like. I know it is between the AKGs and KRK 6400. I would like something would good bass, but nothing that might overwhelm everything else. I have no idea if I would like something that is flat sounding or not. I read that the KRKs are suppose to be more accurate to how the song is suppose to be, but I wonder if it will make "low quality" songs sound worse. It seems that KRK might be a good headset for a person who has a diverse music taste though. The big thing the AKGs have going for them for me right now is price as they are only $62 on Amazon atm. Anyways thanks for the help.

There's only a limited number of amps that will reliably push 600 Ohm cans (in general) at that price point.  Too bad you missed the Mass Drop for the Matrix M-Stage at $177 shipped.  Take a look at the O2 at JDS Labs.

 

Don't know if the new "Little Schiit" Magni will power them.  However, Schiit claims it will push the HE-500.

Both the KRK and AKG are well respected studio quality cans.  The one you pick may or may not be perfectly suited to your taste, but you will have a quality headphone in this general price range.

Hello everyone....Sennheiser GAMING/MOVIE headphone setups????????

 

 

 

 

Im looking for headphones mainly for computer gaming and watching movies.  My friend, who is a bigger audiophile, suggested Sennheiser.  I have a few specific questions:

 

I was considering these setups:

 

1. PC350(or special edition) with astro mixamp

 

2. PC363 which comes with 7.1 audio(USB)

 

 

The obvious difference is 1.closed cans  2. open cans

 

OK QUESTIONS::::

 

A.  What's the main difference between open and closed cans.....It can get noisy if Im traveling but not so much at home...do I need closed cans for better blocking of background noises or do Open cans have a superior sound?

 

B.  What's the difference between the 7.1 audio device that comes with PC363 compared to the astro mixamp.

 

C.  Do i need a soundcard? external amp?  (currently have gigabyte z68a-d3h-b3 with 7.1 onboard audio)

 

This is mainly for the PC....but I do game on the PS3 and would like to use with that also if possible.

Hey guys, me once again as I was hoping for a bit more feedback than one post. Looking for a pair of headphones within a 200 dollar budget that will be good for Classic Rock, Country, Jazz and a bit of gaming. Thanks! 

Edit: Mostly for indoor use, sound leakage doesn't matter.

Any help Please.


Someone with a clip and the can will have to test it and tell you.  The Superlux is a can that hangs on the divide of working OK with certain portable devices but not with others that are less powerful.

Can only help you with "A".

 

Open cans tend to leak a great deal of you sound into the environment where others, who are close by, can hear it.  They also don't isolate your ears well from sounds coming from that environment.

It will help if you tell us the equipment that will be powering these cans.  Whether or not you have an amp is important.

 

I recall that you are OK with open cans.

To start with, I have no amp. I am really quite new to all of this, so correct me if I am wrong. All I have is the VIA chip that is integrated to the motherboard. Will also be using an ipod touch for music every once in a while. If I should start with upgrading my computer with a sound card instead of buying headphones feel free to let me know.

Sennheiser HD558 + Asus Xonar DX = the best you can possibly get for 200$ or just a bit over that for the music you listen to and gaming.
