I mean, these guys might MAKE their music on computers, and machines, but the quality of music is no worse than Marley's records - many DJs still use vinyl to press digital music for arguably the best sonic performance, right?

I'd link a youtube video for example but I'm at work; Noisia - Could This Be, and Opiuo - Creamy Taco are a few tracks that have amazing sonic value, and in coloured headphones, they're nice, but the detail in these songs is really where they shine

I'm looking for a less coloured headphone than M-100, and more of a refrence headphone, than a 'DJ' headphone, for my DJing - When creating  a painting, you want white light, so no colour is washed out, but painting in cool light, or warm light will still have great effect on the atmosphere of the final product. In a way, DJing with M-100s would be like painting the Sistine chapel in strobing orange/purple light lol. That's my line of reasing anyways haha.

So as much as I'm very happy with my M-100 purchase, I want something more balanced - perhaps even cooler and analytical - than M-100s, while still having that bass impact.

EDIT: Upon considering it, I've narrowed my choices to MOMENTUMS, MadDogs and DT1350s. Of the three, which Is most neutral along the highs and mids, with the best bass impact?

Ive listened to them a couple of times, but dont remember specifics, they did sound good.they fold up, detachable cable. Most of all they are extremely durable.
and if u looking for some popularity with them, Armin van Buuren and Markus Schulz use the same model.

"you won't purchase from say headroom? or other trustable audio stores

I don't think any of those phones are "refference" in that they have tuned qualities into them , for example the TMA-1 have more bassy sound than most headphone, so is both the skull candies I think"

Because i get a really good discount.

Anyway, I already own ath m50s but i want an upgrade

I listen to everything from Sousa, to dubstep, to delta blues and everything in between.  not much classical but a little jazz.

I am a soon to graduate film major so reference quality and comfort is a must for editing.  they need to be accurate and crisp.

Here is the kicker... I will only purchase my new cans from BestBuy so they must stock them or at least have them online, but not marketplace. (dont ask why)

Price is of no concern but the ultra high end cans should be justified if you think they are worth it.

thank you in advance for your help.  Lou

I am also looking for a set of cans from Best Buy as a gift in the $100~$150 range.

some possibilities include:

Beats studio

Pioneer - HDJ-2000-K

Pioneer HDJ-500-R

Pioneer HDJ-1500-S

Logitech - UE 6000

Harman Kardon

AIAIAI - TMA-1 Studio

AIAIAI - TMA-1 Beatport

Skullcandy - Mix Master

Skullcandy - Aviator

ATH-ESW9A

akg K172HD

akg K171MKII

AKG - K550

AKG K272HD

etc.

The AKG K 550--if you can get a good seal. Beards, sideburns and even glasses can defeat this.

The KRK KNS 8400 is good if they are stocked.

Hey head-fiers, this is my 4th time posting in this thread... hopefully someone will help field my questions this time. So I think I've settled on the Maverick Audio TubeMagic D1 w/ OPA627 OpAmp & GE5670W Tube upgrade and now I'm just trying to decide on a suitable set of headphones. I'm not adverse to open, semi-open, closed or sealed but I'm definitely looking for the best sound quality under $400. Comfort is an important factor as well. I mainly listen to all varieties of rock, ambient music, hip hop, jazz, blues, bluegrass and  sometimes I will watch a movie too but that is very rare. I basically need a headphone that is apt for most genres of music. Considering the Sony MDR-1R, Sennheiser Momentums and the AKG K550. I've got a pretty big head so not too worried about fitting the AKGs. However, these were the options I was considering before I decided to get a more competent amplifier/ DAC combo. Can any recommend/ advice me on some headphones in the sub $400 range that fit the bill?

How would the HE-400s sound with the D1? Would it be too much amplification for a 35 Ohm set?

In the last week there have been many deals floated (on the Deals thread in this section of the forum) for the HD 650. It will give you a little mid bass hump without trashing the overall sound of this classic open can.

Are you saying the maverick will give me a mid bass hump?

I'm saying the 650 will (the HD 600 is more neutral). I have no personal experience with the Maverick--only the HiFiMan hybrid amps (+ some solid state amps).

Just purchased HD558 Used Like New from Electronics Expo, hopefully, will be a good headphone. What other headphones are these comparable to? How is the sound stage?

If my 15 headphones other headphones disappeared and was only left with the HD558, I would not suffer.

Hello everybody!

I'm new to the forum; I joined so I could get some advice. I'm looking into getting a pair of cans within the 100-200 dollar price range as well as an amp in the same price range. So far I have concluded, after researching for quite some time, that a pair of ATH-M50's would be perfect for me, along with a fiio e17 amp. I enjoy listening to rock, alternative punk, electronic, ambient, as well as a little pop music here and there. I just wanted to get the forum's opinion on the matter in order to make sure that I am headed in the right direction. Also, I am interested in bettering the quality of my music by transferring to FLAC. Most of my music right now is mp3 or worse so I am going to need to do so CD hunting, but I was wanting to know if the difference will be apparent when I listen to the music? Especially with the amp. Furthermore, what is a good music managing software for FLAC and the like, because I am using doubletwist right now and about to rip my hair out. Sorry, I am pretty new to the game.

EDIT: I also was considering the aiaiai TMA-1 studio's, but I have heard they are too dark. Sorry to be a scrub but what does that mean? Are they good headphones?

Ha. Is the sound stage better than the HM5? I saw some reviews saying it wasn't great.

Hello guys, i would really appreciate your advice on a problem of mine. So i have the HD 380 Pro which to my ears are pretty neutral but lack bass. My brother has the Grado SR80i but he intends to get other headphones and he will give me these which i like on some songs but others the treble sounds very harsh or piercing. I was thinking of getting a closed pair of headphones for bass which i intend to use for gaming, but the Beyer DT770 Pro which i intended to purchase, from what i understand, has pretty harsh treble so i won't be purchasing those.

My problem is, I'm running out of options! The only other pair that, from what i understand, has good bass and non-harsh treble is the AKG 167 but for 200 GBP i can find something better right? right?

Dark = treble lite.

The M50's are a good choice if you like enhanced bass at the expense of of recessed mids. If not there are better choices.
