I like that the HD 25 1 II is very mod friendly. Anyone know what kind of cable it uses (mini to mini, 2.5 to mini, etc)

The DT990's look nice, and I'd prefer it over the DT880 as the 990's have a stronger Bass and treble. I think the 32 OHM version of it will be good, but I also have the chance of buying an amp (250$ Max), Any recommendations?

I want to stay with either the M30 or the RP-HTX7, I'm just wondering which is better for me.

Hey there, I'm looking to buy a good, cheap, circum-aural, closed pair of cans. I'm looking at the ATH M30 or the Panasonic RP-HTX7. Any opinions as to which is better? I listen to a lot of music ranging from classical to dubstep so something nicely balanced with decent bass is what I'm looking for. Thanks!

Im looking for headphones, maximum spending 200 euro

I will use them infront of my PC when listening to music (i listen to hiphop trance etc so i need BASS) and watching movies and playing games. I will use them for extended periods so they need to be comfy.

I heard about the ATH-M50 but on the other side I heard some bad stuff about their comfort (nowhere to try them here) so im looking for some suggestions

The Sennheiser HD 25-1 ii's look perfect but are there any other's that are good and around the same price range (<$200)? I'd like them to be on ear and look pretty. Grados are sexy as hell, and some of them are pretty cheap, although I'm not sure if they're the greatest with bass.

Thanks,

Edit: Oh yeah, I listen to Electronic, Rap, and some industrial metal/rock (Rammstein, Rob Zombie)

The HD25 is a fine choice, though I wouldn't exactly call them pretty. They have a pretty good all-rounder sound with a punchy bass. They are also portable (though don't fold up) and very rugged.

Grados are not particularly rugged, have strong highs but leaner bass. They also leak a lot of sound and don't isolate in the slightest, if that is a concern.

It uses a Senn HD580/600/650 cable.

If you get an amp, you can go ahead with the 250 or 600 ohm version.

I say a Denon D2000 or Beyerdynamic DT770 if you have an amp. Both provide plent of low end grunt (one rumbly, the other thumpy). If you're a competitive FPS gamer, then you'll have to find a compromise with bass as low frequencies will obscure positional audio.

If they need good looks give the AIAIAI TMA-1 a try. They excel with the mentioned genres and look sexy as hell. They also isolate well and are really comfy (IMO). Easily swappable cable is nice. They're also built like a tank.

The HD 25-1 II is a better all-rounder, but for looks and a similar sound signature the TMA-1 is unmatched, IMO.

Beyerdynamic DT-770 80-Ohm, on eBay, you can sometimes find refurbs for a good price.

Nice bass.

Will those work without amp?

It's 80-Ohms, I'm guessing it will work ok with most sources.

Why would you say M30 over the HTX7?

The D2000 is perfectly fine without an amp.

The Beyers are a little harder to drive and like to have an amp, even the 80 ohm versions. A typical dap may not offer enough headroom or have adequate bass response.

I mostly just found the M30 much more comfortable.

I am yet another of the hundreds of relatively new members on this site. I have what I would consider an average headphone inventory (HFI-580, ATH-M30, Yamaha HP-3), and I am extremely happy with all three of these headphones, but I would like something to wear outdoors that sounds nice, has good isolation, and won't break too easily. So far, my M30s have provided this. My problem with the M30s is that they just don't isolate well enough for use on the bus/while walking. So I started carrying around my 580s, but of course I got nervous about breaking them. I absolutely love them, but I just cant afford to break them. The HP-3s cannot be driven to loud enough volumes from my phone or iPod, and the isolation isn't too hot either.

Basically, I want to grow my inventory. I have around $100, so I've been thinking of getting Grado sr60s or sr80s, but seeing as they are open and very leaky, they would be terrible for outdoor use. If there are any headphones like the ones I have described (very isolating and good for everyday use), please let me know. If not, what other headphones are there with really good isolation? I have tried searching, but there are just too many posts to sift through and too many different headphones to research. Thanks!

I honestly love how the HD 25-1 II's look. I have no idea if it's just me but they're one of my favourite headphones looks wise and the TMA-1 looks silly IMO.

Would you consider iems? they provide far better isolation than any closed can.

In terms of headphones, the king of isolation on a tight budget (or any budget) is the Sennheiser HD280. For under a $100 you could also look into a Shure 440 and get extra the 840 pads which are a little comfier and isolatebetter. A list of other headphones that are more expensive and have better sound but not necessarily better isolation: Senn HD380, Senn HD25-1-ii, B&W P5, Beyer DT770.

Go with the HD 25-1 II then. I prefer them to the TMA-1 slightly sound wise.

My faithful pair of Denon AHD1001K's that I loved died on me a few days ago and I've been looking for something to replace them. I'm looking to spend around $100-$125 at the most but less is always great. I listen to mostly metal and play games a good deal (but don't want a "gaming" pair of headphones per se). The only real caveat I have is that they must be closed. Recommendations?
