Also, compared with beyer 990 pro? I didn't test  the 990, since they don't have demo unit yesterday. Probably I will test it next month, when I'm back to Hongkong.

Seniors, please help me between 770pro 80 or 650 or even the 990 pro...

The DT990 pro has OP bass unless you stuff something under the pads or loosen the headbands

Why are you only looking at the 770 80ohm version? If you are considering the hd650 you will definitely need a powerful amp and the hd650 is already more expensive. If you can up your budget and decided you wanted the DT770, the higher ohm versions are better regarded.

Think I'll probably be going with the Sennheiser HD518.  There aren't too many full-sized, open headphones to choose from at this price that I know of.  Anyone have thoughts on AKG K 142 HD and/or Audio Technica ATH-AD700?

And also the Asus Xonar DG Soundcard does seem to have a minor built-in headphone amp that I wasn't aware of.

Why does the headphone have to be open? Nothing wrong with open cans, just curious as to why that is a requirement.

I have not heard the HD518, but have heard the 555/595/598 and they are nice, comfortable, and work pretty well for anything but bass heavy music. The other open can I would look to in your range is the AD700 which you also listed. Even lighter on bass than the Sennheisers, but known for its great big soundstage.

Save yourself a few dollars.

Technical Pro HPT990 (Takstar Hi2050) headphones sell for less then $50 at Amazon.

That said--the open Senn HD 650 is in an entirely different class than the closed Beyer DT 770.  While it may be a slight overstatement to say that one is a KY Derby class horse, and the other is a claiming horse--it's not too far off.  The 650 is a classic audiophile grade can.  The 770 is a nice specialty can with a "V" shaped EQ.

If I buy the hd650, I will consider it as long term upgrade from M50. For the Beyer 770, might be for short term update.

I know the Fiio e17 can't power the 650 fully, but I can bear with it for now.

since the hd 650 is around 140 usd more, I don't think it a very big difference. Considering It will be a longer upgrade than the 770. But the 770 pro 80 or even the 990 pro is good for me too.

So, can anyone help me in this case?

Yes--both are closed.  Sorry, driving all day has left me a bit spacy with regard to details.

The two best open cans for all around use that I have heard in this price range are the darkish HD 518 and the brighter but a bit bass light AD7000.

The 770 higher ohm model has more bass than 80 ohm one. I already consider the 80 ohm bass qty enough for me music wise, and too much bass is not good for gaming.

If the bass qty is too much, the no 990 for me. But are you talking about the 990 32ohm one?
Dt770 pro 80 has enough bass qty for me if its help. Senn 650 loved the sq and ok with the bass qty, but dont know for the gaming quality, since there are no thread for it.
I was hoping this thread will help me choose.

Actually, i can tell with my ie8. It helped me few times from being stabbed on the back in cs go.
But I want a full size can that comfy and better than my m50 or ie8 for m8sic and gaming.
Choices between hd 650, 770 pro 80ohm or 990 32ohm perhaps?

You could also look to something like the AKG Q701 which is going to be flatter on the bass and is excellent for gaming. I've never heard of anyone using the HD650 for gaming so I have no clue how it performs in that respect.

I need bass for my music, that is why my options are those 3 cans. Ultrasone 900 pro will be perfect for me, if the clamping is not too much. So, i ruled out akg.
