Mostly listen to alt. rock (Radiohead, especially) and electronic.

In that price range, your options are essentially limited to Grados/Alessandros and Sonys.

I already have the MS2 (I am not sure if it's an MS2i), that's like the 225's right? I am ok if it needs an amp. I don't think I would ever bring my HD600's out on the street. I have portable headphones for that. Thanks for the great list. I assume for the DT 880's, I should get the 600 ohm once since I am using an amp? I've narrowed down your list to the D5000, MDR-SA5000, DT 880, and Q701 since I don't think I need or want multiple Grados.

The MS 2i is based on the SR 325is.

If you have enough amp power, go with the 600 Ohm version.

What would look sexier outside, HD598s or M50s? I don't know which ones to wear out. I don't really care about the 598 being open, I'm going somewhere very quiet anyway.

If you wore the 598 outside in public I'd laugh at you!

It has to be the 598, based on the claim a few days ago by a forum member that they got him a girl.

LOL...explain in detail why that is relevant.

Seriously, I need to explain this one? Now I don't care about what a headphone looks like in public...

But you want to look sexy in public..with an HD-598?

They would look perfectly OK if you're dressed up as a clown.

The only example where the HD-598 might be "sexy" is if you had them inside your Porsch. Maybe buy one of those to go with your HD-598.

Maybe you can buy a suit that matches the color of the HD-598. Now THAT is real sexy!!

Do you have to get V-Moda? The best V-Modas are the M-80s and LP2. The LP2 has more refined bass. The LP is a shoddy headphone. The bass is just noisy.

Check out the ATH-M50s. It can be had for $110.

The point (which I did not think had to be explicitly stated) is that there is nothing serious about this subject...nothing at all.

I narrowed my options to two models: Soundmagic HP 100 and AKG K550, which suits me more?

Prev. post:

"Hi everyone!

I am searching for headphones, to be fair my first headphones.

What i would use them for: First of all Music from my (iphone 4) i will get also Fiio E11 amp (or other Ex) to get better quality. Second most important place where i will be using them is park, cafe, outside sitting and reading, yes, i love to listen to something while i am reading. and the last but not the least Traveling, i fly allot and most of the time i listen to music. Also films from my laptop.

Music type: Rap, Hip-hop, Classic, Rock, electronic. Mostly i listen to the rap but often i do listen to chill out electronic music, for example when i am reading.

Price: Under 300$

What is important about headphones: In my ears i want just music no extraneous sounds, i dont want to annoy people around me. this will be weird one, but i want cable from one side. The headphones must be comfortable to wear for hours. Decent made.

Sound: I love Bass, bass is amazing! But too much bass is disgusting, i don`t want very hard bassy heads. But the bass must feel. I am searching for clear and crisp sound but at the same time not too cold, i don`t know how to describe, but i want to feel that the music is not flat. I love when you can hear distance between instrumental sounds and vocal etc. It is like to watch film in 3D.

What i was looking at:

ATH M50 - i did not liked how they push my head.

Soundmagic HP 100 - really loved them they are very comfortable, the sound was a question because without AMP they sound so-so

ATH A700 - i can`t find where to try them, what is our opinion comparing them to others?

AKG A 550 - i have not tried those too.

Are there any other similar headphones i should look at? What would you consider? "

Well, in that case, is there anything else within that price range that would do well enough with just, say, the O2 amp? No dedicated soundcard in my computer, so a DAC would be needed in the future, but what about just an O2? How does it do with the HD 650? Are there any other Headphones that do well with it?

Hello!

I need to buy new headphones since my old headset is almost completly broken and I want better audio.

They will replace my old headset and I'm going to use them for gaming, music and movies. So it's very important that they are comfortable since I will be wearing them for long periods.

My experience of headphones so far is almost none. The quality headphones I have listened to so far is M-audio M40, Beyerdynamic DT 770, AKG 601.

Music genres: I listen to a lot of different genres for example. indie pop, house, alternatiive rock, progressive rock, modern dubstep.

Portable: No, only at the computer.

Price range:  $150-250

Amped: Not at first but i will probably consider to buy either an external soundcard or an amp/dac. Recommendations are appreciated.

Closed/Open: I think i want open cans both for the comfort and the sound.

I live in Sweden so I prefer to buy them from Europe. Shipment and VAT makes US expensive, but a good bargain could still be interesting.

Thanks in advance,

Blabbet

I don't have the O2 but have read good things about it.  It's designer claims that it will push 600 Ohm cans and planars.

You need a fast can to handle electronic music.  That points toward the Shure SRH 940, Sony MDR-SA5000 (no amp needed), Sennheiser HD600.

All my serious music listening is done by way of CD's and vinyl, so I can't help you with the DAC, except to say you probably need to get one before too long--perhaps one included in an amp.

If you like bass (and for sure if you don't) but are not a basshead, the Sony MDR-MA900 may be for you.

Of course know next to nothing about prices of cans in Europe.
