Looking for a set of headphones ~150 bucks. An FiiO E5 is my only amp, and I'm going to use these on the buss and train, mostly, so they need to be at least semi-closed. I listen to all sorts of music and have no real preference in that regard.

The local stores around me have these to offer:

Audio-Technica ATH-M50

Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 ohm (will they even work properly if Im connecting them to only an e5? (connected to an android phone))

KRK KNS-8400

An assortment of Grados (SR60i-325i and all inbetween)

EDIT:

They are also selling DT 1350 80ohm and "Sennheiser HD25 Basic Edition" (what is that about?)

(budget:$100)

If bass is important to you, I don't think any Senn in your price range (or maybe in any price range) will satisfy you.

Sound signature: I like bass, but not XB700 style. I also like a little bit of a bright/air-y sound. Neutral/flat are okay too.

Usage: Mostly home, but portable would be a plus. Music 80% of the time and games 20%.
Open/Closed: Leaning towards closed, but open if they have decent bass.
Amp'd: PAV2V2
Previous Cans: SR125, ATH-ES7, current pair Equation Audio RP21s.
I've looked at the ATH-M50s, and ATH-AD900s.

Ultrasone HIFI 780 are at or near your budget.  They probably best fill all your needs unless you are a basshead uber alles.

The KRK sounds like a good choice.

I'd also look at the Shure SRH 840.  I hear it as better and more accurate than the m50, but others will either disagree and/or say they love the M50's bass.

Stay away from open cans like Grado for commuting.

My headphone budget just got nerfed to $40 :( I was originally going to get the Superlux 668bs but they are over my budget at Amazon. I'm looking mainly one with comfort that is either closed or semi-open. These are my first set of cans so I'm pretty sure for $40 i'll be blown away. I plan to purchase it with a Xonar DG. I was thinking about these

http://www.amazon.com/CAD-Audio-MH310-Closed-Back-Headphones/dp/B004OA6WOA CAD Audio MH310 (closed version of the Sampson SR850's I think)

I read issues with clamping pressure and comfort with the Superlux's and the CAD and that might be an issue for me. I think I have a normal sized head. I was also going to mod the JVC's if I got them.

Bass is not kinda important. Maybe just some EQ adjustments and the bass booster of fiio E11 will be just enough for me since metal is my favorite genre. So, any suggestions from Shure and Sennheiser under $100?

Looking at the Headroom frequency response graph is looks like there isn't much bass, similar to a pair of open cans. (ATH-AD900) but I've read reviews that say the bass is there and wonderful.

How about denon 2k for about $200 shipped from J&R. You'll need to call in to get that price.

I know that the Shure SRH 440 is a good can, but I don't know your genres well.  I also don't know much about any current Senn's below the HD 518.  I also have no personal knowledge about your amp.  The 440 is very efficient in any case.

Check the buying guides linked on the first page of this thread.  In one of them bass heavy cans are highlighted with a red "B".

Should the CAL!'s build quality worry me at all?

Unless you put the CAL!'s under extreme stress (e.g. sit on them, shove them in your bag under large textbooks) they will be fine. They won't break if you drop them from a reasonable height. The build is light but sturdy, so if you treat them like any other headphone you need not worry.
