In ears can easily be more comfortable than on ears, or even over ears quite easily. I prefer IEMs, even my universals to my full size headphones regarding comfort (and sound actually too). Feel free to post your preference, but don't say something that is entirely preference based is 'guaranteed'.

Hey all,

Buying a closed pair of headphones, around the $100 range. Looking for:

1. Neutral sound signature (classical music)

2. Isolation

3. Portability (ideally straight/detachable cables, collapsible design)

4. Comfort

Any ideas? Currently considering the SRH440 at $80, SRH840 at $130, and Ultrasone DJ1PRO at $140.  The M50s tend to be praised a lot around here but they are currently going for $140 on Amazon. At that price I'm sure there are better headphones to be bought, true?

I am also looking at m50 , ultrasone dj1 pros , hfi 780 and beyers dt770/80 ohm.

Damn confused !!

Need a versatile headphones more inclined to metal and rock.

Ultrasone HFI 780 is on top of the list closely followed by m50.

If only beyers were better for rock and metal :(

Hello everyone,

I'm currently an owner of a Skullcandy Hesh Headphone, and since I'm going on trip to SC in less then two weeks, I was looking forward to buying a decent pair of cans for $300.00 or less. I usually listen to Rock, Rap, and Metal most of the time too if that helps. Currently, I'm interested in the Sennheiser HD598, the Audio-Technica m50s. and possibly the Beyerdynamic DT 880, although I'm open to new ideas. What do you guys think the best headphone is to go for for the price and the genres of music I listen to?

Thanks for any advice. :D

I think the HD25 will suit your needs. Saves you $100+.

Ultrasone HFI 580!!!!!!!!!! :D They don't need to be amped, and are just fine through the iPhone and a PC/Mac.

I believe the general opinion for this situation are the Audio Technica M50s. Are you going to be walking around with these, in a public place, or mostly at home?

Are you going to be traveling with these? If so, you'll want to look into a closed, portable headphone. Also,  headphones in that price range typically need amping. Are going to have a budget for an amp as well? Answering these question will lead to a better answer for your question.

They are going to look fine :) I have the M50s and they are great headphones, but I think the HFI-580s are a little bit better (I tried them out)

I'll probably just use them at home for the most part, although I might wear them out in public occasionally.

I have a little extra cash for the amp though.

Hey guys,

I want a pair of Open headphones. Budget is ~$200 max, ~$150 ideal.

I'm not an expert with headphones, but I think I'd want a fairly balanced sound. I mainly listen to alternative rock. Example bands: The Flaming Lips, Arcade Fire, Radiohead, The National, Animal Collective

I was looking at the HD598, but the price increased from $180 to $250 before I could buy them.

Any recommendations would be great.
