How can i get my computer audio output to act as if it was a microphone?

HI all!

I want to know how can i make so that if i was in a voice chat program and i played a song on my computer the person im chatting with could hear it, as if it had come through the mic input. Without having the mic just pick up the audio from the speaker, because that sounds horrible. Is that possible?

Yes it is possible with most soundcards but not all. If you have an option to record wave you can set the record mixer to wave & it will send pristene audio to the chat program but when you want to talk you need to switch back to microphone so keep the mixer handy. If you have an option for what you hear that may work also though it may in some cases mix in the microphone as well which you don't want. Do not use the option mix if you have that as it basically opens all channels including the microphone.

Assuming you're on Windows Vista or newer:

Right click sound tray icon, Recording devices, right click in the list of devices - check Show disabled devices, enable Stereo Mix, and if you cannot configure the recording device in your application simply set Stereo Mix as the default recording device.
