That is exactly what I did to recable my portable headphones. I just used the inside wires from the W2893 and put them in some nylon sleeving. The wires themselves are very pliable making them perfect for portable applications.

A very all-round headphone for me. Just the right one to take on the go or on holiday. Also as a DJ, nice noice isolation. Very durable so you don't have to wonder if it will break if you throw...

Hard to say, SQ-wise, which is better because navships just has so many different wires, in different gauges. The 2893 sounds great for what you pay, plus it's flexible and microphonic is subtle. The navships is very microphonic.

I have used Navship's pre-twisted, stranded wires in sizes 26-24AWG for headphone recables. Coupled with the cloth-like techflex (iirc it's called monofilament sleeve) in 3/8in diameter size, they make fine cables. Just make sure to avoid the solid, inflexible wires.
I'm curious so many people are calling the wires microphonic as I don't find it to be the case. Granted, I am using wires purchased back in 2008; it's possible Navship is using more microphonic sleeves for his wires now.

I wanted to know what you think about this cable here:
http://www.gotham.ch/en/index.php?section=docsys&cmd=22_details&id=16
The tech stats aren't bad at all? How would it compare to w2893?

looks pretty decent bro..but never tried it before
why don't you try and tell us what you think of it after that?
I will try it out, as soon as I have time. I won't be able to compare it to w2893, because I never got in touch with the mogami.
Best regards
I finally recabled my AKG K518DJ with Gotham GAC 4-1 cable. (The bigger one, w/ 5.4mm diameter) and wrapped nylon multifilament about it and determined the cable with NYS231L, which I found too small. The cable is heavy duty (double shielded) and very flexible. However the wires have a PE insulation, so be sure you don't put the solder iron on the wires ;-)
THEY SOUND GREAT! =D the soundstage opened quite a bit, the bass is punchier and more controlled and the highs are hilarious compared to before the recable! :D
I never thought a recable could have such an impact on the SQ!
However I ordered an HD 25-1 II now, as I find the K518 not that good for everyday use....
next time anyone wants to buy gotham cables for a recable, I'd recommend them the GAC-4/1 mini (3.4mm diameter!!!!) which is a lot more flexible and has almost the same SQ i think

hi, hoping that somebody is still therre, i was wondering how to open the headphones to soder the new cable. my akg k518dj cable is cut in the middle so i have to recable. i have bought an inexpensive wire (1,05 €/m) and inexpensive (1,50€) gold plated 3,5mm jack, is there a big sound loss? but most importantly how do i access the sodering points in the headphones??

Pull off the leather earpads. It will give you access to three screws. Unscrew these and then gently pull apart the casing. Shouldn't be too hard but be careful with the wire. Then solder. Make sure you are proficient enough at soldering before you continue.
I am going to recable my K518 when I have time but I have pulled them apart to apply the bluetack mod.
Have a look at these photos to help you get started. Another headfier who recabled K518.
Please post some completed pics if you decide to go ahead with it!
Good Luck!
