Best Soundcard under 50$

Maybe I am setting the budget too low but I feel like my Realtek HD audio might be holding my AKG 240S back as there is no bass and electric guitars and the like sound muted and dull. I am no bass head but it would be nice to have a nice concussive boom when gaming from shotguns and the like and I the muteness of some songs really gets to me. Is there a good audiocard for under 50$ that would provide much better sound quality for my headphones?

For pure music, check out the HT Omega Striker. Keep in mind, for the K240, you may want an external amp.

Which Realtek chip / mainboard / notebook model? I doubt 50$ will be an upgrade..

The 240S' lower end is rolled-off and not very pronounced, if you know what I mean. Other than plugging it into a receiver's headphone jack (high output impedance) I doubt you'll get the change in sound balance (not sound quality) you're looking for.

But the best upgrade choice would be different headphones with a sound signature that is more appealing to you. :s
