Such is the head-fi way.

Oh believe me, I got the joke before started writing previous post. This is just an explanation for other head-fi'ers for the overall development. wink.gif

But, I really want a serious Rockbox player,...this could be perfect!!! smily_headphones1.gif

I ride road too, but not as often as I would prefer. Life gets in the way too much lately, unfortunately...  frown.gif  The fitness comes quickly if you can keep at it on a regular basis. I'm glad to hear you've found cycling as a recovery from your cancer. I bet you have/had a lot of association with Lance. It's a shame after all he went through beating the disease he got into doping so intensely during his career.

Keep riding! I will try to do the same.

Hope the Fiio X3 comes out with the Rockbox capability as discussed. I would love to check it out if it does- I've never had a Rockboxed player before.

This is not a big deal for me personally but I do think any new high quality DAP with fresh FW should support ALAC now that it's become open source. Very common codec for home use and will be the one of choice once Apple starts offering HiDef downloads. You know that will be the case. Besides the rumors, why do you think they've made ALAC open source? To set themselves up for expanding their music store.

Since Fiio is still writing the FW, it should be easy to add this and future proof themselves, not to mention it could be a good selling point for those already with those files. Used often in home distribution systems and no converting would be an asset.

About the possibility to install the rockbox in our X3, sorry, the Soc is not a common use chips , and our firmware supplier will not open the source, so I think it is impossible to install the rockbox in X3.

Sorry for that. but we will try to make the X3 as what you guy wants, and will release more information when we feel it is time to do that and we can promise to you guys.

X3 only support TF card, so it is hard to support 256g or even 64g, the maximum capacity of TF card is only 32g.

TF and microSD are the same, so the X3 will only support microSDHC cards, which are limited to a max of 32GB per card, right?

Oh great,...another limit.

And cn11,...we both gotta stay with it!!! cool.gif

Please Feiao, do not dissapoint us:

1.When Fiio X3 will be release after 6 months, april 2013 i am sure 64 gb internal memory will be minimum for mobile phones and DAP's.

2.Many of us here will be happy to pay $200-300 for a great DAP which i am sure it will be.

3.100% of you costumers here will love to have Rockbox on it, if possible, make that happen.

4.You said that SDXC will be supported now you have changed your mind.

5.8gb internal +32 gb TF card= 40 gb wich is not enough for 192/24 files.

6.None of us will buy iBasso,iRiver, or Hifiman DAP, and we can wait for yours as long as it takes to be released, but please listen to us.

SDXC support and Rockbox are a must for all of us.

7.Is the final design ready, can you please share the technical info with us?

Many thanks, a humble headfier and a Fiio product FAN.

^ They've made it clear that Rockbox is a no-go. Unless somebody can reverse engineer the chip they're using, we'll have to use their UI. Hopefully it's a good one...We have to keep in mind that they are bound by constraints that we are not privy to; they are not one of the big companies that can use leverage derived from volume orders when sourcing components to keep costs down. I do commend them for taking our considerations into account and I do hope they can accommodate more storage, too - I don't think that's being unreasonable. Speaking of storage, I just read that (and this is really from the rumor mill) the Galaxy S4 will have 128gb of storage...

The have already stated hardware is finalised,

300 is a bit steep and above there already mentioned price point

Rockbox as I had said before wont happen, the soc's will not release their private code.

SDXC is not an issue

192/24 is way overblown and unneccesary

They have listened to us more than any other supplier seems to have ever done, their level of service to head-fiers has been outstanding and I am sure will continue to be.  Rockbox is certainly not a must for everyone, as long as the firmware is good and stable its all good

As they stated just 4 posts above they will share more info when they are ready, they have been excellent in updating.

agreed. the 150-180usd price point pretty sure attracts alot of customers. making it 200-300 might leave alot of its customers as well, and i am one of them. 200 is OK though.

This. If they could add ALAC decoding, it would only help them but it's not a deal breaker by any means.

Meh, so much for fitting a lot of 24/96 files on it.

TF = microsd. The max for a micro sdhc card is 32gb. I wouldn't count 64gb micro sdxc out though, until someone tests it. It's just like the clip+ and the fuze... They only officially support sdhc (32gb), but if you format a micro sdxc as fat32, it reads them just fine...

Look, if this can take a 64gb micro SDXC card and the battery life is good I'll get it even without Rockbox. FiiO, as I've said before, has never let me down. cool.gif
