Please add me to a preorder list.

sure there is a bit of money in the enclosure and other cosmetics (as with any high end item), but we are not talking about a datasheet amp here, Justin has not followed an app note, he has created a little hybrid (chip/discrete) and hand matched the discretes (can I know what they are mate? even just fet or bipolar)

I know from experience how much time just that step involves, particularly if you want to do it properly and match them at operating point, as well as a couple of other currents, or perhaps curve tracer match.

I can tell you it takes a very long time and is boring as hell. …

then perhaps we are dealing with EOL components for the discretes, R&D for previous prototypes, which as this isnt just a CMOY, there will have been a few; plus of course the cost of warranty and running a business

Myself I went for external LiFePO4 and use a high current balance charger as well, a bit more advanced than the one pictured and its FAST; my DIY has 4 x 2300mah 3v3 cells so would take forever with a normal charger. but I can tell you it wouldnt fit in that case

Justin, you didnt consider something like the bq24735? it would certainly add complexity, but not a huge amount, noise could be a problem, but there are ways around it, it would add cost too.

Guys as Justin says, battery charging properly and safely is not a simple task for modern chemistries.

Lastly, to compare this to a cmoy is pretty laughable. cmoy requires zero R&D, tiny parts cost, tiny chassis cost, little effort to build etc. … I would think there is higher profit in the cmoy actually

I saw these, and it gave me an idea: http://www.tresrey-usa.com/tresrey-aluminum-battery-thumb-nut-dex210-2pcs/

Why not custom machine the thumb nuts and then anodize them to match the color of the amp, whether its black, silver, blue, red, etc.  Looks like it's going to work out as long as the aluminum is strong enough.

I will also be including two extra thumb nuts with every amp, just in case one or both are ever lost.  You won't have to email me and pay $20 for more.

The anodized thumb nuts will look really cool! What an inspired idea.

Please add me to the pre-order list too.

Thanks,

Andy.

I was not planning on taking pre-orders yet, but OK.  everything for the amp is on order.

i have a spreadsheet here that I'll be updating with the pre-order requests: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Am1HOq1s0PwSdG1DSEJjQWd4dnJaRlJxcVpLZXNYTkE

i will send PMs to those on this list later, to fill in the missing information.
