nice one, do you know what actual voltage they are when fully charged? what do they drop down to before charging?

cheers

that would depend how they're charged but most will do 8.4V.  8.2V a little less common.  the nominal voltage is 7.4V and they'll spend most of their life around this range, before quickly dropping to 6V and then being shut-off by internal protection circuitry.

^ That sounds right. The Taobao page refers to 8 volts output. From experience with the Stepdance, when they die it is immediate - power light off, sound gone. There is no gradual deterioration of sound quality, at least none that I notice.

Thanks Justin,

would these be a good choice? or better to go with Ni-MH that may get closer to that 9v as a nominal voltage? Looks like I can by a couple of good quality batteries and charger for $50-$70 or I can just by alk one use for $6ea at the supermarket....Rechargeable seems like a much better option.

a few tenths of a volt doesn't make much difference

don't know where you live, but $6 each is a lot for an alkaline 9v.  i am buying them in bulk, and paying 90 cents each.  If I got in somewhere as a dealer/OEM it would probably be less.

Agreed, $6 is a lot for a 9v. You can easily get some from Amazon.com for about $1-2 each in packs of 1-2, or even cheaper if you get a larger pack.

That being said Justin, is the Pico Power tolerant of 9.6v? I'm probably going to go with a rechargeable set and I'm trying to decide between the 8.4v and 9.6v's (assuming they actually reach their rated voltages...)

I have already bought these rechargeable made by Maha Energy. Hopefully they will work fine with Pico Power.

Those are the same ones I've been looking at buying. I have that same charger somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. If Justin confirms 9.6 is fine I'll probably buy the same setup you have right there :p

I have the same charger. My batteries are by Powerex. Had it for my SR71A before. It should work. For the US, I get my batteries at Thomas Distributing. Good company.
