Quality EQ apps for ipod/iphone/ipad

an easy solution to cutting out wait time is dont ad your entire library to the playlist.  or if you do, clear it before you close the app.

though yest it would be best if it didnt do this.. i wonder what the purpose of that is anyway?

UPDATE:
woah wait a minute, now its checking my whole library every time even with no playlist.. it takes FOREVER,... this definitely seems to be a glitch and needs fixing asap.

I do sort of plan on reviwing the iPod. I got mine used and it was in less than good shape from the first. As such, I feel that it is only fair to judge it generally as a number of things on this unit (formerly Young Spade's) are problematic because he treated it like trash.

EDIT: I am VERY impressed with this new version of Equalizer. It is a shame that it is released like this now, as it missed a lot of positive review potential in prior versions. Review timeline: I broke my arm, so I've been right slow in getting things up. I'll do my best, but this post, for instance, took me five minutes to write and I'm tired.

This is the exact horror I'm subjected to every time I start the app,...and I haven't even created a playlist yet - it's need a fix ASAP!!!

That's a shame shig, it's one hell of a device and this is coming from a former Ipod hater. Wonder how you like the sound compared to the 2g touch you had.

That issue above should be taken as priority for the next update, imo.

I was a pretty rabid hater of everything not minidisc till 2006, then I got into the hate iPod camp, and eventually got an iPod touch and felt cheated. Why did I waste all those years going from one FOTM device to another in search of perfection that not a single company were to deliver. Apple has delivered the closet to perfectuion that I've heard or owned, and the only player of audiophile grit I've not heard is the Colorfly.

I had a very similar experience.  especially with the touch and its excellent functionality with email calendars etc.. beyond just the music experience, the ipod was a revelation for me what i finally got one.

Though as a music player goes, I must say im thrilled with my clip+ too.

well i found the issue and the solution, but something is definately in need of a fix regardless.

The app always loads all the songs from your last playlist every time it opens.  Even if you clear your last playlist before you close it, it still defaults to the last one you used.

So if you ever made the mistake of adding in my case - your entire 2000 song playlist, you ended up waiting 5 plus minutes for the app to load.  only to try to clear the playlist, have the app crash, and end up having to wait another 5 minutes for it to load all 2000 songs again.. this happened about 4 times before i finally managed to clear the playlist, ad 1 song, then close the app.

next time it opened it only loaded the 1 song, and opened instantly.

It sounds to me that in your case it defaulted to your entire library before you even added anything.. I can only imagine the frustration if you have 5000 songs as there is no way to force the app to stop.. you just have to wait it out.

i never had this experience until today's revision.  i never noticed it adding my playlist at startup before at all actually.

so to summarize.. open the app... wait...wait.. pull out some hair.. wait some more... then immediately clear the playlist and then ad 1 song.   then close the app.  next time it opens it will only load the 1 song and open fast...

obviously if you are one who enjoys making giganto playlists youre basically out of luck until this gets addressed.

anyway.. developer.. please fix this.. it is incredibly frustrating.

thanks

Shig - same here.  I came from a Cowon iAudio7 - which BTW is an excellent DAP.  I was going to get a J3 - but then got the chance to get a Touch using some reward points.  Unfortunately, before now I'd relied on reviews maligning ipods etc compared to Cowon.  Really glad I got to try it myself and make my own decision.

The Touch (for me) is fantastic.  Simple to use - great SQ (even without an amp/LOD or EQ).  But with the new EQ apps, it's adding even more options to personalising the SQ - and I can't wait to see what a LOD and amp will do.  It may be just the 4th Gen Touch (I haven't tried others) - but I see no need to even try the J3 now.  This is all I need.

if you encounter problems starting up Equalizer: please go in your settings app and enable 'save start' in the options for Equalizer. It will not check your playlist on the next startup. I can see that this causes grief and am thinking about other ways to deal with this.

Onza:, thanks for the candid words. I do appreciate it. Let me refine a few points.
My main priority is transparent and correct audio representation and equalization. So I put a big emphasize on audio.
As to the song selection you mention as a big con in Equalizer: in iPod app you have the exact same screen to go to as in Equalizer. If you want to play your playlist called 'my best' you would go to playlists and hit 'my best' and then select the song to start playing. In Equalizer you tap the plus icon, go to playlists, select 'my best' and select all songs and then done. Then hit play or select the song you want to play to start replay. It's two taps more granted but now you can actually add on to your playlist, or remove or change order without changing the original playlist in your iPod app! Is that really a con? (genuine question!)

As for your other two questions: I cannot speak for Victor but I know I tried it all and what it boils down to right now is that you *can* do remote control and lock screen controls etc in apps (and I have done it in my other apps, it's not hard) but unfortunatly Apple has thrown us a curve ball with regards to iPod library access AND remote control/lock screen. It doesn't work as of right now. Maybe iOS 4.3 or higher? We will see.

Preset for the iPod equalizer settings are a whole different animal as we have no access to it.

Machiventa:

I will look into the redesign for sure. Moving the slider down is no problem. Neither is the label for album art.
As for alphabet, is that for the list where you select songs from your iPod library or the blue background playlist?
Thanks for the feedback.

@Audioforge:

If Equalizer is to be like Rockbox then it needs to NOT scan your tracks on every startup. I have over 5000 tracks, and do you have any idea how long it takes for Equalizer to scan every time??? Well, I sure don't - I close the app in disgust every time,..bloody waste of my money ATM. That is a HUGE bug (or feature???)!!! I never heard how it sounds, or made any adjustments to the bands - it just friggin' scans my tracks!!!

I HATE IT!!!

Over 5000?
