StageDAC as pre-amp, suggest 2-channel power amp for Monitor Audio RS6 speakers

Thread Starter

So I have a Meier StageDAC on order. I notice you can use the StageDAC as a pre-amp and all I would need is a 2-channel power amp to drive my Monitor Audio RS6.

Any suggestions?

A brand new Emotive UPA-2 is $329. I don't mind used and I just registered on Audiogon. The problem is I don't know much about speaker amp brands so I don't know what to look for. I would like something that won't make my speakers any brighter. I have a Yamaha 663 powering it right now and it is brighter than my friends NAD 355 with the same speakers.

I would like to keep it under $300. Under $200 would be even better.

Also has anyone used the StageDAC as a pre-amp for a speaker set up?

Yuck. There's a resonance at the bottom of vocal primary and the FR is a disaster from 10k-20khz (http://www.stereophile.com/content/monitor-audio-silver-rs6-loudspeaker-measurements)

That said: the difference may be the NAD dealing with the impedence spikes better (Given that it's a 3-way floor-stander, it's asking a lot from an AVR). New, I don't think you will do better than the Emotiva you already mentioned.

The issue isn't a "bright" amp, so much as "enough" amp.
