looking for amp, DAC and phones

Thread Starter

Ok, so i'm looking to upgrade my headphone system and dive in to the hifi world.

At the moment i have a pair of sennheiser 515 driven straight through my x-fi platinum soundcard.

I've been lurking around these forums for about 6 months and now it's time to kill some money.

Im using headphones for 80% music and 20% gaming.

The music i'm listening to is like 50% metal, 20% electronic music (psytrance, dnb, dubstep)

I would like a sound with alot of soundstage and of course fitting for my music preferences.

I live in Sweden and could stretch the price of phones to what HD650 cost here (420$)

DAC/amp's i've been looking at is:

HLLY DMK-IV

Yulong D100

Audio GD: FUN, NFB-11,12

Musiland MD11

ZERO dac/amp

HLLY DAC-01

That said i'm open to altenatives. I would like to keep the price of the DAC/amp at around 300$ but could stretch it.

So, hopefully some of you hifi heads could help me get a really nice system!

I recently got the HLLY and as a DAC I really like it. Well built and has some weight to it. Doesn't feel as cheap as some others at the price. As far as the headphone output I was not as impressed but you have to keep in mind I am using entry level Grado SR-60's. The remote control is a nice addition if you intend to also use it as a pre amp. A very versatile unit for the price.
