So I noticed my KRK Rokit RP8G2s have the high-frequency volume adjust. Since I'm not going to be using my speakers for mixing anytime soon, they're primarily for listening. The room I'm using them is relatively small and completely bare wood and the ground is concrete. I tried using them with the default DB adjust after awhile but the sound is so sharp that it hurts occasionally. I just tried turning it down to -2DB (or whatever was the lowest) and the sound seems more laid back - but I get the feeling I'm sacrificing detail. Can anyone tell me what would be the best setting to use?

I auditioned the SRH-1840 straight out of the box, and was unsatisfied with the sound, so I decided to give them a period of break-in. Recent scientific studies have shown definite differences...

By turning down the treble by -2DB you've just rolled off the treble a bit, the highs are still there just there playing at a slightly lower volume than all the other frequences, what soundcard/dac are you using and how loud do you have them, they use neodymium tweeters i find neodymium and other plastic tweeters get harsh at high volumes, fabic/ribbon tweeters don't and sound smooth even at really high volumes, you could try acoustic room treatment as its probley the sound echo/reflection thats making them sound that harsh.

Once i got my RP 5 it was the same but with time it get smoother and i get more used to it, also using pre-amp out and not dac-out made the sound smoother and more natural also if i reduced the high with the button backward it get muddier and lost details, can't ask too much for cheap monitors.
Yes the tweeter are just plastic but the upper range use silk dome.
