My ipod touch and the concept of offline work are really a problem for me. Help please!

Hi, I apologise for asking a couple of 'stupid' questions but hey I'm a complete novice at this 'stuff'.

Q: I was given an iPod touch for my 50th by my sister a while back now  and her husband set up (initialised?) iTunes and the iPod Touch on HIS computer initially (as I'm not 'gifted' in computers to say the least).

After that I was given the Ipod Touch and decided that one Apple app would help me greatly to travel around Sydney (a mobile timetable) so I bought it (whilst at my library (see3)) BUT,

1) when I synch'd this app to my computer in iTunes it didn't recognise it and said (in my speak) "You're not my computer mate" and it rid my data, SO

2) I checked the Ipod manual and it seems that I have to tell it to go to the Apple Store to authorise it to work on MY home computer, BUT

3) I'm NOT on the web at home (this msg and subsequent ones are done and sent from my librarys WiFi  microsoft computers..the web is too costly for me at home) SO

4) Is there any way for me to 'tell' either my computer (iTunes) or iPod Touch that I'm an offline userand would like to have this app and subsequent apps and Updates etc be recognised as belonging to me and my computer? (any help wld be nice pse. I use my USB to download Microsoft etc stuff in it but it would appear to me that Apple is rather closed)? Thanks, Paul.

Note: we only get 1hr a day to use the computers.

Ok, the main problem is that the iTouch only recognizes one master (computer). Before going any further, could you tell me if:

1. You've got your own Apple account and that it's the one registered on your computer at home.

2. The iTouch's is synced to that account or your brother in law.

I think you can get around this, but . . .

It is probably best for you to buy your apps from your iPod Touch though Wifi. You just need to find some free WiFi in your area (like in McDonald's???)

You need an iTunes account, which you already have, BUT you need to authorize the iTunes you will be using for purchases.  Even if you don't do this the app shouldn't be erased, it only affects stuff that normally syncs.  Once you authorize the iTunes for your account just right click on the plugged in iPod Touch in iTunes and click on something like "transfer purchases."  That will put the app on your computer and then either your computer or iPod can update that app and keep apps synced.  Basically you need the internet to do anything in the world anymore.

I thank you for your reply and apologise for the lateness of reply...silly season. I think that I have the account for the ipod (I purchased a gift voucher and am being noticed by the ipod). My brother in law kinda just said 'here you are, happy b'day'. I've subsequently purchased one other app which, when synching, also just disappears. In itunes (and in 'about' on the ipod it says I have two apps.....they just don't 'work'.

I'm sorry to be so vague and will seek more info from my bother in law when he arrives back to Oz.

Again, thank you kindly and I hope that you have a great festive season!!!!

I did buy it from free wifi at my library BUT it doesnt synch to my iTunes at home. 'It' thinks that my ipod touch and/or computer belong to my brother-in-law.

Thank you for the reply and I hope you have a great festive season!!!

Simple solution,

Go to the menu in Itunes (Store)  look to find authorize my computer.

Problem solved. You can transfer your files onto your account and back up.
