Oh. My. God. (Got my HD 650s) - Page 12

the HD650's are one-note-ish? i don't think so. they have a pretty flat bass response. plenty of upper mid-bass and plenty of deep bass. they definitely cover the whole bottom end. i'm confident that more people are happy with the bass than not happy with the bass. these kind of comments are why i am starting to hate this place. so much negativity and subjectiveness. maybe the amp or source you were using was one-note-ish. the HD650 is well within the +/-3db spec starting at 20hz all the way up into the mid-range.

But tbh, the bass quality I feel of the DT880 is much better. It isn't one-note-ish like the HD650 / HD600. Not the only one that feels this way.

Bass isn't all about just quantity people. the bass guitar does play more than one note people.

not sure what the question is, but yes i have the $800 HeadRoom desktop amp with the built in DAC. it's a beast!

If you wear enough pairs all over your body, you get the full-body feeling you normally get from speakers.

I have noticed, however, that I listen to a lot less electronic music with them - mostly because 'analog' genres have such depth in the instrumentation and vocals - little variances in guitar/banjo strokes, drums feel more organic - and vocals! Guitar rock really is laid back too. There's more detail but it's somehow less engaging.

I'm guessing your Grados are sitting in a drawer somewhere, unused.

just kidding. congrats. i had the revelatory thing with my k701's. i'll never part with them for that reason alone.

Trying to get work done but listening to Kylie Minogue instead. Man, I love electro-pop with these cans.

Bought myself a pair off of the trade forum here... I knew I would give in to the temptation eventually.

On the plus side, I love having something new coming to me in the mail! Positively exhilirating

Have you tried the HD600?  Many of us feel they are better than the 650, and certainly more neutral.  Obviously the HD800 is even better, but I doubt you're ready to spend that much yet and get the equipment that you need to make them shine.

I did almost the EXACT SAME THING as you. and I felt the same way you do,

then I bought a V-DAC and an really good AMP and WOOOOOOOOWWWWW.

in other words, the APOGEE DUET is no substitute for a decent/good DAC.
