Covert file formats? Please help, pretty please?

Thread Starter

I am so confused.  I have a boat load of WMA lossless files I created using Windows Media Player.  These are big files.  Now, I have an HM-801 and a Cowon D2+ inbound and it does not appear as if the Cowon will work with files of this size.  I've seen confllcting information about what the Cowon will work with as a maximum files size.  320 kbps and 256 kbps MP3s are the two maximums I've seen.

Ideally, I would like to convert my WMA lossless files to a format both players could work with.  Hard disk space on my computer is not an issue so I would like to get the best possible SQ for these files.

I've looked at the Smart Audio Converter for $20.

Am I on the right track here or are any other issues I should be considering?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Bill

P.S. I started this thread in this forum becasue I could not find a better place.  Moderators, feel free to move it if it belongs elsewhere.

Personally, I keep lossless rips of everything and transcode to mp3, wav, whatever else I may need with foobar2000 and the various plugins needed for respective file type. I find this system works and is pretty speedy - f2k spawns n simultaneous conversions, where n is the number of logical processors you have. Best of all, everything is free!
