DIY amp with enough power to drive HE-6?

Is there a board (or kit) with enough power to drive the Hifiman HE-6?

6 watts at 60 Ohms is recommended.

Gainclone FTW.

do the math?

6 Wrms = 12 Wpk

sqrt(12*60) = 27 Vpk,   27 V / 60 Ohm = 0.450 Apk

so in round # you're looking for 30 Vpk (which could be 15 Vpk each side bridged output), 500 mA output, not exactly CMOY territory unless you go with "GainClone" audio power chip amps like LM3886

professional PCB boards aren't the only way to build - simple enough projects can be point-to-point wired in air or with perfboard

of course there are many "GainClone" PCB, kits out there - one of the kits or the point-to-point builds would be fastest - you can use enough supply V to get the power SE too, cutting expense vs bridged "Balanced" 4-channel amps

chip amps can be "improved" with composite/multiloop feedback, Class A (or Self's "XD") output bias or even Black's Feedfroward error correction - some references to all findable in search of the diyaudio chip amp forum

Gilmore's DynaHi/Dynamight (balanced) amp may do the job too

the B22 doesn't manage in Class A with the recommended bias but the last few dB being Class B probably isn't an easily measurable difference - much less audible

a high supply V 2 board B22 or with lower supply V you could go bridged and up the bias to Class A for full output power

Amb has boards for the above 2 options
