Connecting two full sized headphone amps to one DAC using an RCA "Y" adapter ? A good idea ?

       I soon will have two decent full sized tube headphone amps ... and I was wondering if its permissible or wise to connect them both "permanently"  to my DAC at the same time using a RCA "Y" adapter so I won't have to keep plugging and unplugging the the RCA interconnects ... which might cause some damage eventually ... (maybe) ?  Might there be some sonic degradation or other issues which i should consider ...  

 

   Obviously I will not be using the two amps at the same time ... so how do some of you who have multiple amps deal with this question ...  any ideas or suggestions would be most welcome ...

What you are planning to do is fine as long as the y adapter is well built. For your peace of mind, the loop out found in some amplifiers is exactly the same.

  Thank you for your answer Diego ... I did purchase a solid metal Y adapter so it should be OK. 

 

BTW i dont know what a loop out is   popcorn.gif

If one amp is turned off, electrically it's the same as not being there.  Should be no problem.

I was concerned about losing some audio quality on one side (using the Y adapter) and the possible mechanical damage of plugging and unplugging the RCA cables ... amp rolling !  LOL

It should be fine and there should not be any sound degradation. In fact if you measure the voltage output of the Y cable, it should be the same. Now, each amp may have different gain so the volume control setting from the amps may be different.
