Doubt it. Don't see anything unique in the laptop that makes it sound any better than anything else.

Dude, it was designed and hand soldered by Dr. Dre himself!!!

In all seriousness, at best I'd imagine it's a little better than your stock soundcard. You'd be much better off with a good amp/dac (well...and different cans). HP's just trying to get a little bit of the beats love. Sigh... I'm really growing tired of these types of threads...

I don't even think it's anything hardware related, as far as "Dre Audio" is concerned.  There is almost no information on it actually having anything, but there are a few websites that seem to allude that included software is the only upgrade besides the cosmetic makeover.

I was real skeptical until I saw that commercial.

Plus Dr. Dre does it himself. With what looks like a really nice soldering station.

I know people be hating on the beats, but if these labtops somehow make those 300 dollar headphones, worth 300 dollars....

wouldn't it be worth it to shell out the  big bucks? =P

I have an HP Envy14, which has 'beats audio.' I cannot tell you how it sounds with beats headphones because I do not own any, but I will tell you that 'beats audio' here means IDT audio with a beats audio skin on the audio control panel. Audio quality wise  it is better than most laptop audio... but that doesn't say much. On sensitive earbuds you can hear an audible hiss.

Edit: sorry I don't have much time to type out a full response yet, I will keep an eye on the thread if people are interested later though.

I wonder if the beats dre hp labtop has some dj programs...

I really don't think it'll be better than a laptop with a good DAC and amp, IMO. Of course, it may give me a pleasant suprise.
