I'm using Ayrewave on OS X. Maybe my Macbook doesn't have "enough" ram, since I'm running only 2GB, but there was a nice difference going to memory mode in Ayrewave. It's pretty much accepted in the computer audiophile community that SSD is the way to go. I haven't tried SSD, only memory mode on Ayrewave. I know for sure I'm not going back to hard drive playback.
