HeadRoom Ultra Desktop Amp+DPS for 600ohm?

I am very interested in purchasing the Ultra Desktop Amp, but i am worried that will they be able to drive DT880(600ohm) properly or do i need the Headroom DPS in order to get the benefit?

Also i hope someone can answer regarding to PS3 that is it a good source since i watch alot of movies throu it? And is there a difference in optical and coaxial inputs in terms of sound quality?

Thanks in advance.

Am i in the wrong forum or is there allready a thread about PS3 as a source and is Ultra amp able to drive 600ohm's without DPS, or no-one really does not know?

There shouldn't be any difference in SQ for coax vs. optical. Its just that optical is immune to electrical interference and coax is not. So if you have a lot of things around that could cause interference,  go with optical, if not go with coax.

As for the Amp question, I have no idea, sorry.

I've heard TOSLINK has more jitter than COAX.

I think i should try them both since those cables arent that expensive. Still hoping to get help for my amp questions! :)

There is some idea on the forums that because headphones have high impedance, that they need a bazillion dollar amp to drive them. You could plug them into an iPod and they'd work. The benefit of getting a better power supply is because the quality of the power supply affects of the quality of the resulting sound very significantly.

The Ultra Desktop is pretty beefy. It will not have a problem driving DT880.

Is it the best amp/dac for $1600? Opinions will vary, but it's a reasonable choice. Don't worry about ordering the DPS right away.

The PS3 should work fine as a trasport. (The DAC inside the Ultra Desktop will be your "source".)

Thanks for clarifying this!. So does all DAC's kinda work as a "source", since Beyer. Headzone also has a integrated DAC i guess it could squeeze the juice out of DT880.

I guess i should get them both and see if i need to purchase DPS later on if i feel like i am missing the full benefit.. One more thing about Ultra amp, am i able to plug it in finland where i live or do i need an adaptor?

HeadRoom has a very easy going 30 day no questions asked return policy. so if you don't like the amp/DAC you can return it and get 100% of your money back.

With that said, i have never used a 600Ohm headphone but I am loving my HD650 and HeadRoom Desktop AmpDAC combo. It sounds great, has some very nice options to tweak the sound, and I have never ever had the volume past the half way mark. usually it's around the 10 o'clock position. There is plenty of power to spare.

Yes, as others have said, the Internal DAC will be half of your source. I say half because you still need something to feed it sound, but the DAC inside will be doing all of the decoding. Plugging anything digital into it will have good results. I have so far only used my laptop with mine, but the sound is great. I have no regrets buying it at all, even at the price it costs.

Sounds promising, i use my Ps3 with the bluray movies and gaming so i guess it can handle well with the DAC!

I read about that return policy, and i think its great that headroom actually cares their customer happines.. I was just wondering will that also apply to european customers. Eitherway money is not a issue for me, but i dont want to buy anything i cant use, leading to the question what kind of adapter do i need to plug Ultra amp at my home? I think in finland we have 230VAC at 50hz, to me that dosent say anything but if someone knows, make me smart! :D
