Love his fusion phase.. But for a gift I'd stick with the more beautiful and accessible work he did in the late 50's and early 60's that also hasn't been overplayed, like Relaxin' or Cookin' with the Miles Davis Quintet. In a similar vein, Coltrane's Ole is probably his most beautiful album you've never heard.
