I originally posted this on the 'Computer Audio' section but maybe it's better here!

Problem:

I used to listen to my music via my hi-fi (Linn/Arcam etc) when my wife was at work with no neighbours I could rattle the windows with no complaints. She has retired so now I’m listening more to computer sourced music on headphones as she isn’t into my music.

My current setup is: PC > USB > ibasso D10 > ATH-A900

It’s time to upgrade!

I’ve decided to get Senn HD650s but I can’t decide on which DAC/Amp to get or even if I should add a soundcard to the computer may be an Asus Xonar Essence ST.

Budget approx. £700 inclucing buying HD650 so about £400 for DAC/Amp/Soundcard

I recently built the computer using a Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H Motherboard which has a S/PDIF out but I don’t know how good that is although it’s probably better than the USB (hmm – I must try connecting the D10 with the S/PDIF)

My thoughts are:

PC > S/PDIF > Nuforce Icon HDP > HD650

Or

PC > S/PDIF > DAC??? > Little Dot Mkiv SE > HD650

Or

Maybe a decent soundcard into an external amp

As far as music genres go anything really from classical to rock with male/female vocal also thrown in.

Anyone got a similar setup or any recommendations?
