I also tried.. I'm not sure what series they would be. .But the old short grey complys that came with Westone products before.. As I have about four different Westone iems so I have tons of tips.. And believe me I've tried everyone with the w4r.. I myself find the p series the best.. Comfort.. Sound.. And the isolation is about the same to.. Again just my opinion but I find any other star tip.. The silicone ones.. Just to edgy or treblly.. Sorry I'm not the greatest at describing stuff lol I also heard that they fair very well with shorter tips.. That's probably why they sound good with the short grey complys I just described.. :-) happy listening..

Try the larger star tips...they are longer as well ...orange ones

padgoi, the STAR tips that I bought comes from Westone directly (paid by Paypal USD $ 15) when I ask them to include it with my W4R replacement, so therefore it is shipped free to Australia as part of the RMA process :-)

Westone is very good in maintaining their customer satisfaction.

I have used the Westone Star tips (large, Orange coded).  I find them to be very comfortable, but they have a tendency slip out.  When they are firmly in place, I like the sound I get out of the W4s.  But as I said, they have a tendency in my canals to slip out. To be honest, I feel like the modification proposed by Anderoan in this thread about a year ago (December 2012) involving an elongated stem for the tip is still an excellent one.  For all of those who don't have ready access to the stems Anderoan was using, there is now a tip for sale that essentially is the same as his proposal.  The tips are referred to as mushroom tips (S, M, L) and they can be bought on ebay ( tohttp://www.ebay.com/itm/10-Large-Soft-Replacement-Mushroom-Eartips-buds-gel-for-Westone-In-Ear-Earphones-/221253840488?pt=US_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item3383c1ae68).  I have bought the large mushrooms and they fit nicely, they provide a very good seal and stay firmly place.  The sound I get from these tips is the same I got with the Anderoan modification.  These tips, compared to others, are relatively inexpensive.  The dealer (Yalokin) also sells a variety of other tips, and many appear to be discounted at present with free shipping.  I do believe that the extended tip opens up the sound of the Westone 4's.  So for all you W4 users still in search of an alternative earphone tip, you may wish to look into these tips.

thing i hate about the longer orange tips is that they arent ergonomic for ear canals, the orange are kinda like the p series comply but i find the comply to be more ergonomic as they are foam and can give a little more give imo.

i still am rockin the earportz IMO BEST tip for the W4r hands down, and i have tried shure tips, atrios, audeo, olives, soft flex, comply's,stars, ect ect ect but they are just not for everyone but if they do work for you i find them to be the best all around tip period

i really was let down by the star tips, the black silicone stars are the best from the silicone and tru fit tips.

i am also having seal issue with my W4r :( have been trying..foam tips...star tips and now i just gotten myself this comfort kit for westone..

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F0W284O/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and i just cant seem to get a good seal...i have a pair of UM3X and i have no issue on seal before....i am suspecting that the body of the W4R have any small gap that make the sound isolation goes wrong :(

any user is having this sealing issue and how you solve it?

I have found I use a size larger tip than I think I would normally. I use either orange star tips(favortie) or black large P-Series comply

Hello,

Was wondering which universal IEMs sounded as if they had Westone 3's bass and Westone 4's mids and highs? Such a thing exist?

I have both the Westone 3 and Westone 4. I love the mids and highs in the W4 but the bass is way too weak for some of my music. The W3 has great bass but when switching from the W4 to them, they dont sound as clean. Ive EQed the W4 for greater bass but it still doesn't come near the W3's.

to me nothing comes to mind that mesh's the bass of the 3's with the mids and highs of the 4's that would be a great iem.i think it would come down to one of the other and since you already own both/i dont know that you will find 1 that has the sound of the 2....IMO

Awww... Not even the higher end IEMs in the $600-1000 range? Maybe I should wait and see if either the W50 or W60 might have that sound?..
Thanks!

Look into the Earsonics SM64. Can't say for sure as I've never heard the W3 (but own the W2 & W4.

They have a similar signature to the W4 with stronger & clearer bass and deeper sub-bass extension. They have less mid-bass hump than the W4 though so if you like a boomy tone added all of your music these may not be for you. But they do make kick drums, bass guitar, etc. really thump when called for by the music. Also the the mids are a bit more forward with clear highs with decently extention and some nice sparkle. And like the W4 , no sibilance. Overall, a cohesive and coherent sound from top to bottom.

Awesome, thanks! I will definitely look into those. I like a nice low bass and sub base, not so much the mid bass. I was also looking into the Shure se846's due to the "subwoofer" sound of the lows and the clear mids. Do those seem like a reasonable consideration or am I off lol? Thanks.

Ok so I broke down and tried the star tips once again. At first I really didn't like the sound. I don't think I gave them enough time. So I now am using the red silicone ones and I have to say I'm loving the sound. Just seems to be more air around the instruments ..the highs sound better and the bass is tight and fast and very detailed ..very detailed..I don't know if my w4rs are burning in ..I'm probably around a ,1000 hours with thrm now but they are sounding much clearer and everything just sounds rite to my ears ..I bought a used hifiman 601 slim and I really love the sound..but when I went back to my iPod 7th gen classic with my continental v3 bamm there it was ...loads of detail ..I have to admit probably more then my 601 slim..and defently more then my iPod 5.5 video..must be a matter of taste cause I find my classic way more detailed the the 5.5 video ..Im beginning to think that the dac in the classic is very underrated? Imo..either my amp or my w4r's are burning in very nicely or the star tips are helping ..or a combination of all them..but these are sounding out ofc this world rite now.:-) keep in mind I'm a detail junkie ..lol anyways yes I am really liking the star tips rite now ...:-) very happy camper ..
