Westone 4 Appreciation Thread and Reviews (a.k.a. Westone 4 ?) - Page 326

I need to replace the Westone EPIC cable on my Westone 4R due broken cabling to my left earpiece, but I don't want to simply replace it with a new Westone EPIC cable as I'd want to get one including microphone and iOS media controls as that would be much more handy for me, but at the same time I don't wont to settle for inferior cabling.

What kind of option do I have that will actually fit the Westone 4R? I know Ultimate Ears are supposed to use the same manufacturer on their line of "Pro" IEM cabling so they got one over at: http://ultimateears.logitech.com/en-us/ue/custom-in-ear-monitors/accessories "48" Black Cable with Inline remote and Microphone (After September 1, 2010)" but I have no clue whether this will be able to fit on my Westone 4R or not.

im 95% they wont fit, i could be wrong maybe they changed things. i believe the westone have a larger diameter, and the westone pins are longer and the UE are shorter and thinner in diameter

Was Westone 4R discontinued? HeadRoom seem to think so: http://www.headphone.com/headphones/westone-4-r.php

Does this mean a 5R is coming out :)

Hmm would it be a good idea to get the W4 reshelled? Mine are about 2 weeks old but I hate the fit. Or should I just return it and get another iem or ciem that fits better?

Reshell it and void the warranty after just two weeks?

If you really are having comfort issues just return them, IMO. Other IEMs that come to mind are the Fidelio S2, KEF M200, RHA MA750, Hifiman RE400, and GR07.

Maybe try different tips? Mine fit real well after you get them in.

Tips aren't the issue for him... it's the shape of the crown...

It's not the tips, the size of the iem and the angle of the nozzle. I'm trying to think of ways to keep the iem but it looks like I have to return it.

Also check out the Onkyo IE-FC300 along with those other I mentioned

I would say go for the reshell, I only had mine for a few days before sending them in.

I just received mine from Fisher today and the build quality is excellent. There are a few small bubbles that I can see, however alot less than my Heir's. Although they don't feel as heavy as my Heirs they certainly match their quality, however the recessed socket area could use some help.

And here is the kicker. I used the impressions that gave my best Heir fit that were over a year old, likely closer to a year and a half and the fit, well believe it or not the fit exceeds that of my Heirs. I was always told not to use them because they shrink over time andi have lost and gained alot weight since then and the fit is close to perfect.

As for sound I have only been listening about an hour and although I don't have a uiem version of the 4r I believe I am now hearing they way the 4r should sound with a perfect fit.

So reshell is like $95 + impression and shipping? I'd already be out $50 if I return them. I guess I'd have to really decide if I wanna go all in with the w4. It's a bummer my PC is down for 2 more weeks and my phone sounds really bad.

I say go for it, you wont regret it.

I don't see a reason to keep something you don't like or doesn't fit for the sake of saving 50$. You could also try selling them. Reshell is kind of overkill for a new IEM.

I had a similar problem and usually tie the cable behind my neck to get a stable fit.
