I actually got this one used from Australia. Shipping wasn't terrible, although I had to ship without the battery, but a replacement battery from JDS was $11. I can't help you with the customs issue.

PS. There are a few C421s for sale in the amp classifieds if I'm not mistaken. Maybe you could do what I did and save a few greenbacks!

I was using the W4 with a CLAS and amp, and happened to dig up my old iPod 5.5.  Plugged in the W4 and was pleasantly surprised at how good it sounded!

That's great, but why would you be surprised :-)

I'm using a iPod classic 7th gen and it sounds good with my continental v3 amp. But I was looking into buying a 5th gen classic or a U2 edition classic. Would one of those be an improvement over my 7th gen ?? I have a old 1st gen nano and by itself sounds really good. The only problem being its only like 2 gig. Lol I get like 50 songs on it maybe lol. Thanks for your help smily_headphones1.gif

I think it really all depends on your personal taste.  There have been many debates about this on Head-fi, but the Wolfson chip in the 5th gen, in my opinion, adds a fuller bodied, warmer signature while still providing clear highs and tight bass. To me, the 7th gen offers a more analytical, accurate, less colored sound signature.  The upper mids and treble seem a bit edgier to me, and apparently I prefer the warmer sound of the 5th gen, because I always use my 1st gen CLAS (also Wolfson chip) with my 7th gen iPod.  (Sorry, I'm pretty bad at describing sound signatures!)  You really could experiment for yourself rather inexpensively, as the standard 80 gig 5th gen. classics can be had for under $100.  If you like it, then you could invest in a collectible like the U2.

No matter what you choose, I bet your Continental will make it sound great! wink.gif

[/quoAwe awesome thank you. Yes I've seen 80 gigs for like 100 bucks or less. If they sound anything like my 1st gen nano then yes I'd probably like it. If I would like it better I'm not sure. It really depends on the mood I'm in. Like you said the 7th is antylital and I like that. Gives me lots of detail. But then there are times when I just want to listen to music and have that more fun sounding sound and just relax ya know. And yes the continental sounds great with these 4rs. I just got it a few days ago so I'm still waitng to hear how it will sound after burn in. Not to sure I believe in that much with this kinda stuff but ill wait and see. Thanks for the advise appreciated it smily_headphones1.gif

Not real familiar with it, but I think tube amps generally are more affected by burn in.  Hope you also have a full size headphone to enjoy with the Continental as well.  It's definitely top shelf.  Have fun!

Thanks smily_headphones1.gif that's what I hear about tube amps too. I hope it warms up a bit more. Not that it's overly bright. But it's brighter then I thought it would be. Still sounds fantastic with these. I tried my etys er4ps with it and I found that it didn't pair very well with them. Probably be better one I get the ohm adapter for them. And no I don't have any full size phone at all frown.gif. Lol I plan on getting some though. Just not sure which ones I want yet. I tried the senns 598 and I liked them. Didn't try them with this amp though. And I guess this amp will drive 600 ohm phones. ?? I didn't realize that but wow I think that's cool. Lol. Anyways thanks.smily_headphones1.gif

Guys, it doesn't matter what gen iPod you use. The CLAS bypasses both the internal DAC and amp on the iPod. When you hook up a CLAS rig you're hearing the CLAS and whatever amp it's hooked up to, not the iPod.

yeah I've seen that. However, it appears that they're not an authorized distributor and hence the warranty won't be valid. Anyone care to weigh in on this?
