Actually being wired, they would be more reliable (in theory). Most electronics fail at the connector/interface area. Been in the Engineering/Quality side of electronics for over 15 years and the vast majority of failures I've seen in my career happen here.

I have my W4R since when it first came out, still working like a charm.

You don't have to worry about most IEMs if you just take simple care of them like: don't drop it, don't pull/strain on the cable, don't trow it on the table when you're done.

my sister's etymotics have been around for close to 10 years and it's still working fine.

Preach it man. I've never broken or seriously damaged ANY pair of IEMs I've ever had (about a dozen pairs). They come with protective cases for a reason!

I think it bugs me because both Etymotic and Shure have out of warranty programs that are truly impressive. And they are upfront with the costs. I wish Westone was closer to where Shure is in that regards. On the other hand, I wish the SE535 sounded more like the W4!

^ Word!

Never had any issue on my w4r and I'm pretty rough on them without ever using any case/pouch whatsoever.  On the flip side the cable restrain on my xba4 is very worn out and I'm having a feeling it will be broken anytime.....  :(

Got my W4 in 03/2011 and they're still working fine.

I've got W4's also, and this is the strongest cable restrain I've  had, so I'm not too worried.  Got them for considerably less than I could find the W4R's so I took the chance and haven't regretted it.  BTW, I also got mine from a 3rd party seller.

thank you smily_headphones1.gif. Ya the loss part kinda sucked. Lol but I think these sound amazing so far. I haven't heard the w4r with any other amp but I think they pair very well with the continental. I am loving the sound. smily_headphones1.gif thanks again.

The W4R is amazing! With it's lush and smooth mids coupled with vocal dynamics makes it musical and non fatiguing!

I just received my JDS C5 yesterday and I've been running my W4s out of it since. These two should be sold as a pair! Even though they don't require an amp, the extra power from the C5 gives the W4s a wider soundstage. Very excited for this setup!

[/qu I was going to get the c5 and still might. I've read people how good it goes with the ety er4s. Mainly cause of the bass boost on this amp. I just purchased the alo continental v3. It doesn't have a bass boost or anything But playing my w4rs out of this amp sounds amazing too. Where did you buy your c5 from ? I live in Canada so I take it the boarder will hit me with a custom tax huh ??
