Is there a huge difference between UM3x and W4? I just received the UM3x and I felt the bass way stronger, prominent midrange and better soundstage ( feels wider, felt like I am immersed with music)  More importantly, Um3x is way more detailed and it sings louder than W4 at the same volume...I felt the W4 sounds tinny and cold to me..I don't feel the "soundstage" as many head-fier says, "W4 feels like sitting at the 4th seat row in a concert". Don't tell me that my W4 got busted, as one of its driver breaks?

edit: has anyone felt that the W4 cabling got stiffer? I have owned W4 for 8 months, and this happens.

Do you mean the cable which goes straight in to the IEM ? mine yes due to the regular use (~2-4 hrs per day use since 6 months+).

How do you use this with the W4? I don't understand.

Simply place the damper in the nozzle. Grey dampers tame treble regions that are most offensive with the W4 while maintaining everything else intact, perhaps subbass is a wee bit improved too

Thanks mercatorn and inks! Those both look like good options. I also just learned that headroom carries a cabled impedance adapter intended to convert an etymotic 4p to 4s.

You can try that, but it will be much harder to drive [it's 75ohms]. The LIIAAIL Sound Capusule will give you similar performance while keeing it fairly easy to drive [33ohms].

@Doc and imackler: How does the bore size compare to Olives? And the SQ difference?

Revisited this thread by chance, clicked on a guys link in signature for tip modification. After chopping the stem off the small white/translucent horrid tips I thought to myself hang on why am I doing this when my Shure "Olive" already has the proper size tube and near as dammit output bore size. Before chopping up a T400 (not cheap to use as a trial and I can afford them) I slipped on a tip that came with the T-Peos 200, silicone affair, black/green stem.

Good fit, snug is not the word I would use but "on there"

OK, so, now I have an adapter that allows T400 size tips. I found  the T-Peos tip a little slack on fit/seal. My tip of choice is the large grey silicone`s from either Westone or Shure (same thing, Shure very slightly stiffer).

Scratched my head, it itched... no. the stiffest silicone tip of that bore size that I have is the large Sony MH1C version. That is what I am listening to whilst typing.

Do I start a sentence (in caps) saying this is a groundbreaking combination that gets Edward Scissor hands excited?

Nah, sounds pretty good considering I love the pinhole output of the large grey silicone and a Shure olive.

Bottom line, the W4 is the B******s.

Edit: 75 ohm adapter cable (Etymotic)  en-route also, recommended by Inks, no pressure ;-)

Seems I've missed the boat on the w4.  Wired version which has been floating around the £270 mark for aaaages is now out of stock, and the R is a whopping  £389 (occasionally £359, which I nearly got but couldn't quite pull the trigger on!).

Cheers

Hi David, never crossed paths before so hi mate.

I wouldn`t say you missed the boat, you could pickup a 2nd hand W4r for the same price. Yes it is a lot of money for a 2nd hand "anything" but if it is from 1 careful owner you should be fine.

If you want any more info feel free to pm me.

Cheers for that. Actually waiting for some cosmic ears to arrive this week so really must resist!

Very nice, at some point I must try that route.

Hi guys, newbie here. I just recently purchased a set of W4R. And I'll have to say it was the best pair of in-ears I've ever had. I'm currently using govibe magnum together with it(previously was on pioneer HDJ-2k. Would like to ask if is there anything I could add to pump up the bass(a big fan of dance music). Any suggestions of cables or even amp that could help with it. Thanks loads. (I tried looking answers but couldn't get them on the forum and opening up a new post for this isn't exactly the best thing to do.) smily_headphones1.gif

No need for a cable change, the stock one is excellent, a cheap Fiio E6 can boost the bass, get an E17 if you need more control. IMHO for a bass boost the E6 is enough.

Thanks man. But I'm already using GoVibe Magnum.
Still curious about the aftermarket cables. What's the difference between pure silver, silver coated, mixed gold with silver etc. but your right, so far the stock cables have been awesome too. .
