I'm honestly estatic. I just got a job, and i'm spending my full time earnings for the first month on purely headphones and headphone equipment. I'm in that building, 8 hrs a day, 5 days a week, so I thought I better enjoy my damn time. I just bought Beyers DT1350s, and own Grados SR225i. I bought the beyers because my Grados leaked sound and when i noticed how nice they are when I got them, i realized I didn't want to bring them to work, so I bought Bower and Wilkins C5s on ebay because I keep hearing people comparing them to the ie8s and alot of people owned them, and noticed reviews and got a quick refund this morning, then i saw jupiterknight posting to sell his westone w4r, and i thought $310 was alot, well I diddnt need the fiio e6 so i asked to buy them for $290, he went down on the price and it was sold... Ive had shure e-415s back in high school like 4 years ago, and I loved them, I think I will love these too. So what do you guys love about your westone 4s, like are they pretty hard to drive?, because I just bought 3 channel portable amp just in case. Just talking about it makes me feel like a kid again ( you know when you get those new toys)

Whuuuuuuutttttt. $290 for modded W4's? That's a good deal. I love the W4's too but I'm too poor to buy a pair.

lol you basically have 2 of the same the same phone sell the your 25s for $200 and you can buy w4s. I personally love my DT1350s too. I'll probably sell my Grados 225i with hd555 headband thing on it.

My girlfriend is going to take my red HD-25's and I'm going to use the DT1350. If I she didn't want them, then I'd sell them in a heartbeat. The fit is horrible on me.

those red ones look super sexy though.. theres alot of good deals, for trades and buys in the subforum.

I prefer my W4 over my brothers um3x. They are just perfectly balanced, nothing too much emphasized. Soundstage is wider which  makes it more musical for me than the um3x.

And YUI's vocals and acoustic sounds very addictive on the W4s <3

The SM3 tips came in late last week.  It slides onto the W4's nozzle with ease, remains secure, and is very comfortable (on par with the gray, single flange).  The tip's bore is as wide as (if not very slightly wider than) the W4's nozzle opening.

The SM3 double flange offers a very nice, neutral sound that's very slightly ahead of my modified, gray single flanges, as far as neutrality is concerned.  Heck, they could be about the same actually (I'll need to do more A/Bing).

Thanks to shotgunshane for the tip (pun unintended) about how well the SM3's double flange work with the W4.  I ordered my set from SoundEarphones and they came with three, identical sized pairs.. so I might have one or two of them up for sale in the FS forum if I decide one pair will work for me.

Just opened the 4Rs, put them in with the tips that came, and right off I knew they are a keeper.

The two big differences between these and my SE535s that came to mind after a minute listening is

these are much clearer meaning I can distinguish clearly each instrument and the sound is not as aggressive.

I'm listening as I write to SRV 'Little Wing' thru my 3rd Gen iPod, headphone doc, EQ loudness.

I know I've heard the song 100 times before but not as good as this. Hooray! Wow his guitar sounds sweet.

I can't agree more on your comparison with the SE535. Clarity is much better on the W4. The 535 is very mid-centric... sort of upside-down U. Whereas the S4 is mostly neutral-warm... but much greater extension.

I've been playing around with tips and also comparing listening to my iPod and iTunes on my computer.

The computer's sound is much better. Brighter and clearer does not come close to how much better it sounds then the iPod.

On the computer is Audio Highjack Pro program and the music goes thru two effects. Both are 10 Band EQ. One is set to 250% gain both in and out, and the other is a pre-set to rock.

The difference is so great that I am bummed out listening to the iPod!

I have a Emmeline Hornet  amp and tried that with the iPod and could hear no difference with or without it.

Any idea why the diff and what can I do to get the sound of the iPod better, closer or as good as from the computer? I've got these great phones now and want to hear them in the best possible way.

It's obvious, the computer is so much bigger, therefore allowing it to have a bigger, more dedicated sound card. I experience the same thing as well, the sound of the computer is just so much bigger and bass is tighter as well. But the question now is whether you can bring the laptop out... so the only way is to get an amp + LOD for your iPod to improve the sound, or upgrade to a Walkman, Cowon or if you're rich, DX100, which will bring you closer to the computer's sound than the iPod ever will on it's own.

I wouldn't call walkman or cowon an upgrade at all, more like a sidegrade.

On the other hand there are chinese players worth trying: hifiman, rocoo, teclast. Some of them buggy, and UI isn't always intuitive, but sound is really good

Yeah but, I compared my Walkmans to my iPod and my Walkman clearly won, although not by a huge margin. 

I just got my pair of the W4's after having issues with the Miles Davis Tributes and I can't believe the details I'm hearing now. On songs like Queen's Fat Bottomed Girls, I'm hearing the bass

slides much more easily and it has some oomph to them. I'm coming from the RE-262s which were bass light so this quantity and thickness (to my ears) is such a wonderful

pleasure.

Have some old Shure olives that I'm going to try and see if there's any difference. But thanks to this forum for tuning me into the W4, I thank you but my wallet doesn't!
