Westone 4 Impressions and Reviews Thread

I think Westone made a mistake with the W4R's packaging, or overstated the imbalance possibilities.

I'll say that for the W4 it's the standard +/-2db

For the W4R I predict a +/-1 or 1.5db

Pretty good considering it takes a lot of work to have it in the 1-1.5db level. This is based on the fact that that the imbalance level of the GR07 is +/-1.5db for the GR07 which was only made possible by testing each one with a dummyhead.

is it safe to buy the W4r now? i'm just goin to import them and i'm concerned on the drivers that one or the other may go OFF in a short period of time and I don't want to rely much on the warranty because of the shipping fees..

Just curious, is it easy to test if your headphones are balanced or not?
I tried listening to a bunch of my songs in mono and all frequencies seemed very centered.
However, I noticed that with normal stereo music the W4's seem to have a tendency to make the bass seem noticeably left or right orientated.  I felt like my triple.fi 10's did that too while the pan is much less noticeable on other headphones.  It could also be the tips, I'm not too sure what I think about the silicone tips that come with the W4's.  The foams are too small for my ears and I haven't gotten a chance to try out any other tips.

Maybe because it's more precise about allocating the sound of song, not because of imbalance. Most of the BA iems are the same in terms channel balance, dynamics are even less balanced most of the time. Nothing to be greatly concerned about.

I believe you can get the W4 (Albeit the non-rc version) from Westone's local distributor (Digital Walker). You may want to contact them if they can get you a pair of W4Rs. :)

Hope that helps. :)

that's tough...

i was never worried on my ex1000s because they didn't have issues..

so maybe the w4s still has it around..

anyways, thanks

just to be clear, i did not mean to say the westone 4r has a high failure rate at all. as far as i know, the westone 4 and 4r have no more issues than any other brand or model of iems. if reports about failures seem high, it's because this is head-fi and the westone 4/r are popular.

i just meant to say that if i was dropping a solid chunk of cache on electronics, i'd make sure i could get support easily. pretty common sense.

Your questions suggests it was not safe before so a simple yes or no is awkward. It has always been safe to buy a Westone 4. It is safer if you buy from an authorized dealer because you get a two year warranty. There are no fake Westone 4's that have come to the surface and no major quality control issues.

that's how I felt when I back read so i came up with that question (sorry for the term).. i've no issues when buyin from an authorize seller.. i am just a bit nervous when a driver goes out it's such a hassle in my situation..
