Actually, a lot of people found it quite annoying that they were subscribed automatically to threads when the forum switched over (a feature that I turned off).

Though I usually like to see if there was any consequence to a post that I've made, if I really really care about it, I'll check my total posts and go to the interesting ones. I'm an avid clicker on the New Posts button and then go for a quick jaunt over to the Member's Lounge, so I suppose that I miss a lot of feedback/conversation on the faster parts of the forum [read: Full size headphones, nothing else frown.gif ]

I'm ok with that, but I can't stand people leaving mid converstaion/thread.

Okay, I'm back...left my computer on but was out listening to a friend's great speaker set-up.

Don't hate me for listening to speakers...just gives me a better target for my headphone set-ups!

My suggestion for this thread is what I have told myself- take the time right now to go and search/catch up on all of the knowledge contained herein if the chatter isn't satisfying.

I have some GARGANTUAN threads to look through before:

  • I have my impressions taken for customs
  • I settle on ES5 vs. JH16 vs. 1964 ears vs. remolding TF-10 with additional drivers
  • I buy some tube amps
  • I buy an orthodynamic headphone
  • I truly understand jitter and asynchronous whatever
  • I have all the great music suggestions I could ever want
  • I read all the great posts by all the great Head-fiers
  • I understand DIY amp circuitry

I have to be optimistic and think that by the time I have done all of that searching...then:

  1. I might have some help to give the new people that is worth something.
  2. The itch for new technology/toys/great sound will get the vets back.
  3. All this searching/listening/learning will take place with all of us "new" headphiles who are now hooked and "get it."  Then the standard of discourse raises.

Of course, that's just my plan.

What's everybody else's?

@ Mdraluck23  Agreed, also i hate when a great thread goes sour because of the need to argue or disagree. Look how many Sm3 threads their are because of arguing. Not everyone has the same view and it seems like people try to stuff their opinion down the other persons throat. Then you have a thread that leaves you hanging in mid conversation/ thread because of EGO. Sometimes i feel theirs to many Chiefs and not enough Indians on this forum. I guess i should have started another thread on this topic instead of high jacking this oneblink.gif. Sorry Md.

1) Head-fi is great for that, but the music forum still doesn't get enough love.

2) I really want a list of the great head-fiers

3) I want to do learn that too, but school beckons. Maybe I'll take an EE class as a tech elective...

My plan is basically to chill in the Member's Lounge and Music forums, and to only chime in on headphone threads that I've actually owned. That way, not only do I only contribute more useful advice, but I also limit my exposure to upgradeitis.

@logwed...I am looking forward to the time that we are mostly hanging out there because we are really happy with our set-ups and just looking for content and community.  Plus a "little" upgrading now and then...

Oh, and this does make electronics "elective"- doesn't it?

I think Head-Fi needs a chat room. Speed things up a lil'. I guess that it might get out of hand though.

Seriously, I just wish people wouldn't basically just do this:

Person 1: Hey!

Person 2: Howdy!

Person 1: Which of these do you like? *gestures at two cars*

Person 2: Hm... *walks away*

--five years later--

Person 1: Hello?

In the not-too-distant past, I used to post on a bicycle forum, and also a Harley-Davidson forum.  Which do you suppose was the most friendly?  No - it was the H-D forum, and by a BIG margin.  Why, I have no idea.  The bicycle forum, which I will avoid naming, had a sub-forum named "Trollheim," a very nasty, lightly-moderated place.  I survived it, and learned the give-and-take of it.  Beyond that, they had a strictly non-moderated sub-forum for "steppin' ouside."  Nice place - NOT!  I'm just glad we have it so well here.  Chat would be nice, tho...

Like Facebook, but with Head-Fi. It was kind of a joke.. But it has potential.

Right - I figured out where you were coming from about two shakes after I posted "Explain??"
