Mild Rant: Forums in General.

I notice that on many forums I go to, not this one exclusively, people often pop in with one or two posts, then seemingly forget about that thread.

I notice a lot of threads just die mid discussion, because people forget they had posted. I have my forums in general bookmarked on that forum's  profile. That way, when I log in, I see what new posts have appeared since I spoke last in a thread. I can actually discuss things with people. This also prevents someone's thread from dying very early. Maybe I'm just a boring person, but when my threads die, and I never got anything from it except from one post from one person, who never replied to my reply to his reply (confusing much?), it just kind of irritates me. Anybody else feel the same way?

Some people haven't learned how to use the subscriptions tool. It's pretty much as simple as that, as far as I can tell.

Well, if you set your page as your profile, you don't really need to do that.

I have a bad habit of doing that. I'll post in a thread, then disappear from Head-Fi for a few days and come back only to find I have 10,000 new posts in my subscribed threads and I definitely don't remember any discussion going on.

I usually hit the "new posts" button when I log on. Sometimes it pulls up a thread I contributed to and sometimes not. I'm juggling two jobs and moderating here, so I try to get in as much as I can each day. It would be nice to have the time to follow up with each thread, though.

Uncle Erik, you do quite an exceptional job. This may or may not be related to you ditching my latest Tennis-Fi post. Just kidding :D

I always start with my subscriptions myself, I am interested in responses to posts or questions that i have had, then when i go through all of those, off to new posts.

YES! That's exactly what I do. Take care of unfinished business, then seek new posts. Not that I've been here actively for very long...

I was starting to wonder.... If this thread dies that quickly, should I just quit life? :)

No, no, not that.

It's a crap shoot whether people will keep a thread running.  It seems as though the hot topics are ones where something's new and people are excited about it (1964 - Ears is a good example of that) or it hits the right collective nerve. Like the "Triple Fi. - Is this a joke" thread. Feelings run high about those iems for some reason. Add the factor of people jumping in because it was a bargain and the suggestion of profiteering and you've got the makings of a multipage thread. tongue.gif

^What he said.  Yeah, you should have been in the SM3 thread!  But you can't quit.  We're gonna see you at the meet beyersmile.png

I know. It's just that this semi-unimportant discussion yield more returning voices than a real post oftentimes, because people never check on things they've already posted in.

(I feel like Uncle Erik is trolling me. tongue.gif)

Man, it'd be super awkward if he started discussing something with you guys at the meet and then you all slowly walked away.
