Designing speaker cabinets

Hey,

I've decided that I would like to design my own speaker cabinets, with the hope of getting them built and then putting my own Active Amps and Filters, and Loudspeakers inside. So that I can then plug in any PMP with a 3.5mm-3.5mm cable...

Does anybody know of any sites that would be able to give information on this? There's only so far you can go with Wikipedia since it's never exactly plain English. I'd most like information on how to power it. I would love to have both battery and mains power - opted with a switch - I can do the battery power but I'm not sure how to do mains power. Also, some info on how to figure out what size to make the boxes and what material to make them out of... So really just some sort of Acoustics 101 stuff...

Also, I'm not sure if it is possible but a standard USB-A socket just for powering any MP3 player would be nice... can anyone tell me if this can be done?

Thanks,

Luke Timothy

PS, I realize that this is HEAD-fi.org not HI-fi.org... but it's the best place I could think of to ask.

Cool, thanks. I'll check and see if any of those books are at my Uni Library.

You will want a copy of Vance Dickason's "Loudspeaker Design Cookbook." That's one of the best resources there is.
