I've bought Ultrasone Pro 900 one week ago after many hesitations (DT880, HD600, K701) for mixing almost and I whould like to ask you if the Kees mod will be usefull for me or not ?
It depends what you want in the sound. I've heard the Kees mod calms the highs and lows while boosting the mids, making them more neutral and probably better for mixing. However, I like their sound signature as is so I'll just be leaving mine...
I got mine about a week ago also and have burned them in for 150 hours so far. I've noticed a lot of change happening as I listen to them for hours and hours each day. At about 50 hours it was like a switch was flipped and the bass sounded much tighter and was my favorite but it then changed again. I won't even consider moding my 900s until I've put about 400 hours on them to see how they sound at that point. From what I've read it seems like a lot of people (not all) have used Kees Mod too early before even seeing how they sound after a proper burn in period. I might try it if the mids don't come out more but while using a MiniBox-ES amp with them I don't have an issue with the highs like many others have talked about. I only listen to hip hop and that might also be why the highs haven't been an issue also. I don't expect much change to happen after 200 hours though.
can anyone tell me hows the comfort of the pro 900 compared to the HFI-780?? Im considering getting the PRO 900 as my next pair of headphones, but if theyre the same in terms of comfort as the HFI-780 then Im gonna have to look for an alternative...
The difference in comfort will mainly just be the pads (velour vs pleather) and maybe the size o the cup as the PRO 900 seems to have slightly larger cups but I could be wrong. I know my PRO 750 are very comfy and they are basically identical to the PRO 900 aside from the drivers. I hate pleather pads and uncomfortable headphones because I listen for long periods of time and the PRO 750 is more than adequate as far comfort goes. YMMV.
Thing with the HFI-780 is, ive put velour pads on it, and still after a while it does start to bother me.. but if u say the cups are bigger thats good... i wanna know how the headband is on the PRO 900 , and does it clamp as much as the 780??
I haven't tried any of the 'sones that are shaped like the HFI-780 so I can't say. And I could be wrong that the 750/900 have larger cups, it just looks that way in the pictures. I'm sure there are some people here in the thread that can answer those questions though. I know I was actually quite impressed with the comfort of the 750. The clamping force is definitely not loose but not too tight for me and despite being closed they seem to breathe fine. I've never experienced hot ears with them. Good luck.
thanks for that :)
would you say the PRO 900 is worth the upgrade from HFI-780?
