I'll let you know how the 1964Q's work out.  Check it:
Frequency Response: 16Hz - 17kHz
FR Graph here

They probably won't be quite as exciting in the top end, but BOY does that graph go low!  I'm going to try to pass my 900 on to my wife, but if she doesn't want them I'm still only going to sell after I've heard the 1964.

The 1964Q are for sure very good iems, but it's always hard to replace a full-sized headphone with iems. The presentation and comfort are completely different to me, and therefore neither of them can replace the other. I have a pair of Rooth TF18, and while they are incredibly good, they definitely don't replace my sones.

Well my Pro 2900s arrive tomorrow. Don't expect much in the way of impressions until this weekend or later since I'm on vacation, but will be burning them in and doing minimal listening. Leander7777, maybe you should start an official 2900 thread? Maybe there's not enough of us to support one yet-but it's getting difficult to filter those impressions here. My .02

It seems like only very head-fiers own them, so it might be hard to get a decent thread going. On the flip side, it might provide as good guidance for Ultrasone newcomers, as there's currently very little information on the pro2900.

  Allright man...
You had the balls to dismiss 650?
I hope you love Pro 900 just to ease the loss...
wink.gif

I liked my HD650 but they got kinda boring... Sorry to say it, many will probably disagree with me. They're good all-rounders but while I listen to a lot of different music, my primary tastes are rock/metal and electro/trance. The Pro 900 should be just what the doctor ordered. I actually started my Head-Fi journey with a pair of HFI680:

(That's my son, not me

)
Then I recabled my friends HFI780 and before returning them to him yesterday morning, I took a quick listen... An hour later, the decision was made and my HD650's went up for sale. Mind you, I went through a lot of auditioning before finally settling for the HD650:

But when I heard the HFI780 I immediately remembered how much I loved the sound of those 680's that I only sold because of their total lack of comfort, especially on the top of my head where they push down on my skull. When I read that the Pro 900 was sonically far better than the HFI series AND more comfortable, the HD650's fate was sealed.

These stand out with technical strengths but disappoint just as much with their weaknesses.

After a long day at work, treble is simply fatiguing. The pronounced upper midrange causes a metallic aftertaste.

But bass punch, resolution and instrument separation are simply incredible. I would have kept the HD650 instead of getting two PRO 900.
I think I will have to get the Z1000 soon. I need the Sony for extra hours, haha.

Silly you - I ordered two sets of Pro900 because a friend wanted a set too. We found them in the UK 30% below the Danish price. I don't worry too much about selling the HD650, I got the same for them as I originally paid and if I end up missing them too much, I'll buy another set. It's not like they're the rarest cans in existance. My everyday workhorse are the marvelous Westone 3 IEMs that when combined with my Cowon J3 loaded with 1700 FLAC tracks keeps me sane at the office. My full size "home" cans are less indispensable than my IEMs. If the W3 broke I'd buy another pair instantly, but I can go for a few days or even a week without my home rig.

I'll be feeding the Pro 900 from my Yolong D100, a stunningly great DAC with a totally decent built-in headamp.

Btw, if you're a basshead metal fan, reading this thread while waiting for your Pro 900s to show up is a stupid thing to do. It's like watching   The Food Network when you're starving and the fridge is empty.

All Pro 900 owners reading this: Go put on "Take The Power Back" by Rage Against The Machine. The slam from the drums opening that track is just out of this world on Ultrasone cans. Then dig up "Chameleon" by Danish Trance artist Trentemøller and hold on to your hats...

CANT. FREAKING. WAIT.
WANT PRO 900 NOW!

Sorenslim i really admire your Pro 900 worship...
But are you not going to miss the airiness and forward mids of the 650s?
Because you are not getting any of these with 900.
Is that in your picture AKG K701?

it probably sounds metallic because its instrument separation is incredible.

some can make it , some cannot.

That's a K701 in that picture, but not mine. Yet... They'll probably be added to the collection some day as they are phenomenal for vocals and acoustic guitars. But as my preferences hover around metal and electro, the Pro 900 seems like the best can for my tastes. If not - I'll sell 'em. I don't get why taking a leap of faith is such a big deal to you guys, it's not like the headphones are our source of income for most of us. It's just a hobby and hobbies should be fun. My HD650s were boring me, so off they went. Life's too short to worry about "what if".

I'd imagine introducing Dolby Surround Sound into Ultrasone's S-Logic would cause a weird affect.  I use them from my DAC and amp, and i think channel separation and footstep placement is amazing just in stereo

Finally tried these things with games, using an astro mixamp and a creative x-fi soundcard. These are kinda terrible for games. The bass completely overpowers everything, making it a muddy mess. Damn.

I don't remember who said that Pro 900 were AMAZING with MixAmp...

Hmm... I was planning to use them for gaming (PS3 + MixAmp) too... maybe I should just skip them and get some D7000 or Edition 8?

@Optimus:
Wait, it's just the cables? You didn't change the insides? So your left earcup sounds better than the right side now?

Why would i change the insides?I am sorry but i am not following you.

I know I've said the PRO 2900 was a great mix with Dolby. Its the best headphones I've heard for gaming. I'm not into competitive games so the bass may drown out footsteps when there is a lot going on. They are perfect for games where you want to be immersed into the game world, and the soundstage is amazingly accurate.

The best recabling comes from bypassing Ultrasone's built in cable attachment mechanism and attaching a cable for dual entry into both of the cups, directly to the driver.  This bypasses the internal wiring that splits the signal from the left earcup to the right earcup.

Many people are fine with just buying a screw in cable, and that is up to them.  I don't know if there would be audible differences between the two, however, if I were to ever recable, I'd definitely go for a dual entry and pay Moon Audio to install the cable for me.

O.k Jibbie i get it...
Unfortunately i don't have the funds to do that kind of recabling..
I ended up with Blue Dragon because i've found it from a forum member quite cheap.
Otherwise i wouldn't have spend any money on cables right  know..
I guess i will settle down with this know..
As for if it improves SQ you will hear from me after some days...
I need some time for proper testing..
