Likewise, I'm curious as to how the 750s sound.  And as for amp synergy with the Pro 900s, I'd say any amp that slightly rolls off the highs.  The highs are pretty extended, and an amp that rolls them of just a tad would be better than an map that adds any brightness.  The Matrix M Stage that I use adds great control to the bass as well as a pretty deep soundstage.  I'd recommend something from Ibasso (D4 or D10), or from Ray Samuels Audio (Mustang, etc).

I have a Violectronic v200 that i use with my Ed8 and it is warm and tubey sounding for a SS amp.  Almost too much for the Ed8 and i actually use my Zana Deux as a preamp to brighten it up a bit and tighten the bass up somewhat.

Are the pro 900's good for rock and jazz- or would the 680's be better choice?

The Pro 900s are pretty solid for metal.  The bass is loud and deep and incredibly fast, so double bass sounds great.  Sometimes songs with already excessive low note growl (like many Killswitch Engage songs) sound a bit too muddy, but it still sounds great overall.  For classic rock, or any rock light on bass, the Pro 900 makes it sound sublime.  I don't listen to a lot of jazz, but I could imagine the bass being a bit too overpowering for that genre.  

 

The good thing is is that if you find the bass overpowering, you can just kees mod them and tone the bass down however much you'd like.  I've never heard the 680.

Tonight I've been using the Pro 900s for some rounds of Black Ops and Bad Company 2, and they blew me away.  Positional audio is top notch, easily besting the K701 and DT990, and the bass is loud and thunderous, giving explosions and gunfire incredible impact.  The once "toy gun" feeling that all silenced weapons in Call of Duty had is now replaced with an incredibly satisfying "Oomph."  Bad Company 2, which already had great audio quality, sounds even more realistic.  

 

Some headphones do positional audio well and consequently lack bass, while other do the opposite, making explosions LOUD but sacrificing positioning.  Its impressive to find a 'phone that can do both, and the Pro 900s are one of those.

GeorgeGoodman, I'm sure you'll love these.  They do Electronica and Metal incredibly well, and as long as you don't shy away from bass, you'll love them.  The good part is though, even if you get them and wish they had less bass and more mids, you can just Kees Mod them to tweak the sound to your liking.  

 

I hope you enjoy them, and please do post some impressions once you do.

It sounds like I will love them for sure as electronica and some types of metal are two of my favorite genres. I will definitely post impressions when I do get them.

I was a bit frustrated trying to find a can that could do solid bass and precision positioning, as those are the two most desirable qualities for games (personally of course).  All of the other cans that tend to get recommended for their gaming precision are very bass light, especially the AT AD-700 that a lot of pro gamers rave about.  Precision is great, and it makes you more competitive, but I find I enjoy games more with a solid bass line to make explosions, gun shots, etc. come alive.  I've got some LCD-2s on order, but I doubt I'll ever give the Pro 900s up -- if even for their gaming prowess alone.

Actually, I find the exact opposite.  When these headphones are underamped, the bass becomes much more boomy.  It starts encroaching on the mids a bit.  It still sounds pretty awesome out of an ipod, but amping adds some control to the bass, better imaging, and the mids come out more.  I would't hesitate to recommend these to anyone, but to buy 350 - 600 dollar headphones without any intention to amp them seems like a waste of money.  You will enjoy them out of your ipod, but consider amping them in the future.

I've been burning my 900s in for around 50 hours by now, and I'm impressed enough to write a bit about them.

 

The bass is great. It's deep, powerful and punchy. Maybe it's a bit too imbalanced for me, but I'm fine with it - these are a fun pair of headphones. I don't plan on Kees-modding them, but I might consider covering some of the holes on the metal plate - maybe. I don't find the mids to be recessed at all. The highs have great definition, although they can be a bit sibilant and peaky at times. Overall, the Pro 900s have an aggressive sound that's more suited to similarly aggressive genres such as punk, metal and techno. I don't think these are the type of headphones I could listen to for hours on end, but rather ones that I'd listen to one album at a time with. That being said, I don't think there are any serious flaws in the sound signature.

 

A common issue some people have with the Pro 900s is that their tonality seems 'off' or unnatural, and I can confirm that they are slightly cold-sounding. My K702s have a fair bit more warmth in the mids, but I'm not complaining, although I'm fairly tolerant when it comes to different sound signatures. The S-Logic Plus can feel weird at first, but upon getting used to it, I can hear a gapless soundstage with a good center area, something that's hard to produce with headphones. Compared to the K702s, the Pro 900s' soundstage is slightly unnatural and smaller, but placement is good and the 900s are able to convey a believable sense of distance, which is quite impressive. Overall, I'm impressed. I like these headphones.

I bought mine from Buyauthorized on eBay for 350 dollars.  They retail for upwards of 500, so that was quite the steal.  Many, many other Head-fiers have ordered the Pro 900s from him and can confirm that he is a legit seller selling the real thing.  He might be sold out now, but I'm sure he'll get more in the near future.
