I pod Classic or I pod Touch

I am new at this game, have a $20.00 pair of scull candy ear phones to show you where I am.

But I have listened to a pair of Grado 250S so I know where I want to go.

Want to record my Library to a I pod.

Should I buy a classic or touch.

The touch is nice , I would get a portable device to check e mail also with this, and I really only want to carry around 300 songs.

Also should I record lossless/ acc or aiff.

I think the clasic having a hard drive mayy sound better than flash drive in I pod touch. Is that correct.

I will most likely record in lossless

Thanks

Unamped, the iTouch will sound better (in my experience) than an iPod Classic. The iPod Touch will also have flash-based memory which is sturdier and faster than hard drive based memory. Overall, if you can deal with the price, go for the iTouch.

Under one condition, the iPod Classic will sound better. This is if you take a 4/5 gen iPod (you would have to get it used) and mod it to get a true lineout. The mod (plus supplies) cost under $100 (DIY), but there are places that will do it for you (~$200-$250). Keep in mind that if you don't do it yourself, you will have to get a special LOD with built in capacitors. If you DIY, you can do a CompactFlash Mod, and put the capacitors inside the iPod. What the mod does is it gets a signal directly from the DAC for use with an external amp.

If you aren't planning to create a DIYMod (or get an iMod), I would go for the iTouch.

Cowon J3?

+1 J3, sounds better than an iPod, HDD, Flash, LOD, makes no difference to me when it doesn't have a great EQ to change the sound to fit your taste.
