Hi there
I'm not sure if this thread should go in the computer audio or speaker sub-forums as it pertains to both topics. I decided to post it in the speaker sub-forums as the first issues to deal with do not directly involve my computer/sound card.
I have recently purchased my first bits of HiFi gear to hook up to my computer. It consists of 1x Yamaha 5730 Receiver; 2x Klipsch SB-1 Bookshelf Speakers; and 1x Polk Audio PSW450 Powered Subwoofer.
On the Computer side of things I have an ASUS Xonar HDAV 1.3 Deluxe sound card running in Windows 7 64 bit.
The idea is to connect the sub&speakers to the receiver via an interconnect and speaker wire respectively and then connect the receiver to the sound card via an optical cable w/mini toslink adapter.
Summary of problems encountered.
ISSUE 1 - SUBWOOFER:
Basically what it does is it humms loudly all the time and does not produce any bass. This rules out for the most part a ground loop as it should still produce some audio.
On the Audioenz forums the basic diagnosis was that the interconnect was broken - this was discovered by trying another AV cable which when plugged into only the subwoofer provided a much quieter humm and when plugged into the receiver as well provides no humm at all.
Any thoughts on whether this would be correct or not?
ISSUE 2 - NO SOUND
I originally was able to get sound going through just the speakers and receiver however after tinkering around trying to get the subwoofer working I can no longer get a peep out of them. I have set everything back to the settings that resulted in sound output but this has had no effect.
If someone could help with the general setup of the system between the receiver and sub/speakers and between the receiver and sound card that would be great.
I'm pretty exhausted at this point; both mentally and physically as I've been at this for 3 days strait with maybe 10 hours sleep. I'm clutching at straws know but hopefully someone on these forums can help.
Cheers
