Why don't DACs have digital volume controls?

I found this http://www.community.genelec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=162

I know that normally digital volume should be at max, but apparently genelec has a working solution for controlling the volume digitally with computer.

Is it simply just expensive to make a dac with the same function?

I'm afraid it's an audiophile urban myth, just like EQ being a big no-no(when ppl actually listen to highly resonant headphones cups). Genelec know a thing or two about Pro Audio.

48/64bit digital attenuation will always sound better than a crappy analog pot. It's all explained in this link how nasty analog volume pots really are: http://diyaudio.co.kr/wwwboard1/data/board1/compare.pdf

and non-stepped pots are far worse.
