no more hje900s?

Thread Starter

i've been wanting to buy a set of hje900s since a few months back but since i just bought a new computer, i decided to hold off on the hje900s

now that i decided that i want to buy them, amazon doesn't sell them anymore (they were around $90 at amazon a month or so back) and the only online stores that do are ones that i don't have experience (confidence) with.  plus i can't find them for sub-$100 anymore :(

so my problem is, i want to buy some iems, around $100 budget, with close to the features and sound signature of the hje900s.  nice strong bass, crisp highs, solid build, detachable cables.  some more info about my music, i'm gonna be using a cowon j3, no amp, mp3 files at 192-320.  genres are mainly rap or r&b but I also occasionally listen to alternative and a bit of rock/metal

any suggestions for a hje900 alternative?

or better yet, anyone know where i can buy hje900s for around $100 shipped?  I don't wanna go over $100 too much since the ath-m50s are at about $160 at amazon and I also wanna buy those.  If the iem cost almost as much, i'll probably just go with the m50s

thanks for suggestions

HJE900 has been taken out of the US market.

I think the closest next source is the UK, but that'll be above 100 for sure.

Watch the for-sale forum here.  They pop up from time to time.

Not too bad though.  These were posted less than a week ago for $80: http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/526143/panasonic-rp-hje900-k

Alternatives are few.  Have you checked radius DDM for instance?  Dual Dynamic driver.
Many reviews on the forum..  I have one myself.

sold for about 160USD, you can check with dimitri from Musicaacoustics

Not really, unfortunately. The VBs have equal bass quality, but much more quantity - they are very much a (sub)bass-head IEM. The hje900 are far from lacking in bass, and can put out an impressive kick, but they won't rattle your skull like the VBs. And as for mids and highs, as well as imaging, soundstage and detail, the hje900 come out well ahead.

From the company of HJEs, Eterna and Hippo VB  I think you can exclude single armature RE-Zeros which sport quite a different sound signature, at least compared to my HJEs.

Did you consider Monster Turbines? Can be had for under $100 and are usually cross compared with HJEs.

based on |joker|'s description of the VB, I'm kinda interested in them too, probably my next choice after hje900.  although I do agree that they are kinda a step down from the hej900

I doubt people will really notice how they look, especially when half of it is jammed into your ear canal, like i never notice woman's earrings/hoopla joopla thingies

He said alternatives from the HJE900, the VB is a good alternative, he said clear mids and highs....whats the problem? I never stated which or which wasn't detailed he said clear. So I still stand and say VB. Period. I audition the original Turbines a while back I didn't like how long in took me to get a fit -anyways- The high were slightly rolled off everything esle was find.
